Questions before I buy
These may be simple questions but I need some help...I am considering buying 1Password.
My wife and I share a MacBook Pro, and a desktop Mac.....If I install 1Password and set it up for my needs, Can she opt not to use 1Password? Should she want to, can she use my 1Password with her own master password?
I have an iPhone 5s, she has an iphone4s. If I buy the iOS version so Im synced with our laptop and Mac, If she choses to use 1Password, can she access my IOS license for her iPhone?
She has a brand new iPad...we share it as well....If we install the iOS version on it for me, will she be able to use the iPad and not use 1Password
Excuse an old guy for the crazy questions.....and thank you

It seems to me that anyone can opt not to use installed software, so I'm not sure why you are asking whether your wife could choose not to use it.
In any event, unless you give her your master password, she won't be able to get access to your data. What you haven't made clear is whether you have separate accounts on those Macs. If you do, your wife can install a copy on her account and use it entirely separately from you and your account. The license covers up to six members of the same family in the same household. But if you are both using the same Mac account, only one copy of 1Password can be installed. You could make a secondary vault for one of you that would be accessed by its own master password, but that secondary vault will open, along with the primary vault, when the primary vault's master password is entered.
There is a difference in how licenses work between the Mac App Store and the AgileBits web store version. The key for your current decision is to know that if you want to use iCloud for syncing data between OS X and iOS devices, you must buy from Apple. There is not trial version from Apple, but there is a 30-day free trial if you download from AgileBits.
The Mac App Store version is eligible for Family Sharing, which would be the way she would get her own indendent copy.
She can access your license to the iOS version only if you both use the same Apple ID for purchases in the iTunes App Store. I am not sure if that iPhone 4s can run iOS 8. If it cannot (or should not), getting the right version for her is doable, but a little tricky. Remember that with the release of version 5 the iOS version is free to download and use for its basic features. Using the advanced Pro features requires an in-app purchase. That cannot be shared unless you both use the same Apple ID.
That ipad cannot use separate user accounts. But if you put 1Password on it, she doesn't need to use it. It will be there, but she will on,y have access if you share your master password with her.
I'm not entirely sure I have answered your questions. Post back if you need clarification.

We are in our 60's so we ask questions that may seem odd...
For the most part you addressed my questions.
She would have her own password as we share computer but she has her own log on as do I...
We would DL from app store....our son has made us apple folk...totally. I have never missed Microsoft since the day we left.
iPad issue seems to be the only unknown...

Hi @Rodger1952 - It looks like @hawkmoth has answered most of your questions, which is awesome:)
It looks like you were also wanting to know about the iPad - your original question was if she could use the iPad without 1Password - she definitely can, although it might be nice to sync that one also, so that you have it accessible if you ever needed it for travel, or to have an extra backup. The choice to share the Master Password for the app would be entirely up to you, but it does not restrict her access to anything else on the iPad.
Please let us know if you have any other questions!

@SaraMinisterOfMagic ...My questions, asked in a different way....wife and I share the MacBook, the Mac and the iPad. My question is If I install 1Password on them and I adopt using it, Does that force my wife to then use 1Password as well? Or do we maintain our independence on the shared machines?

Hi @Rodger1952
There's the possibility we're not quite understanding how you imagine your wife would be forced to use 1Password.
As long as you have individual user accounts on your Macs you can both use 1Password with your own vaults or a single shared vault or not use 1Password at all, it's completely your choice. Now if you use a single user account between you that makes it's tricker. You can have a single shared vault between you but there isn't a way to easily switch between two personal vaults.
iOS devices are just single user though. That means there isn't a way to have your iPad hold two independent vaults - it simply isn't designed that way. It could cope with a single shared vault but there isn't a way to give you both personal access to just your own ones on a single iOS device, much like above with a single user account on OS X.
Now it might be you're actually asking a slightly different question. Say you share a lot of logins but as a 1Password user you also want to take advantage of using long and complex passwords to keep you safe. In that sense your wife could be forced to use 1Password because all of your shared passwords have just become so horrible that you really need the extension to help you (which is exactly its purpose). If she can no longer reliably type in or remember the passwords you share she'd need to get used to using 1Password like yourself.
If we're still not quite answering your question, could I ask how you feel your wife might be forced into using 1Password if you use it, that could clear up any misunderstanding.
