1Password Version 5.1 (510027) Mac App Store
Hi,
my first "optical" impression is not so good.....

Mine looks the same with version 5.1 and OS X 10.10.1. The first item under Credit Cards displays on the bottom half of the name, Identities.

After a second opening of the app, it looks good again.....

Same here. Items were munged until a 2nd launch.

This happens to me after every upgrade. It appears as though the calculation for the default size of the column is off but if you manually drag the column to a larger size, it usually remains fixed until the next upgrade.

I haven't had this problem with the update to 5.1 (or any of the other updates), but I'm happy to hear a second launch of the app seems to solve it!
@ZamboniMan, I'm sorry you've had this problem multiple times! Can you confirm if quitting & relaunching the 1Password app fixes it?

Unfortunately, I'll have to wait until the next update before I can confirm that. Once I've adjusted the column size on the first launch, it never happens again for me.
I will make a reminder and test that out on the next release.

I launched iPassword a second time and first got a dialog box telling me I had an incorrect version of iPassword mini launched. iPassword quit. After finding and removing that older version of iPassword mini I launched iPassword again. This time everything is working. The old version 5.0.2 I deleted from my Mac.

If I have 1Password 4.4 that I downloaded a while ago from agile bits site, and have vault populated, can I download new 5.1 ver from Apple Apps site and will it overwrite the existing ver and import the vault with my data?

No you would need to follow a conversion process as some of the files go in different places. Its not hard but must be preformed.
Please note the licenses between the stores are not interchangeable. If you do not have a valid one for the Mac App Store you would need to purchase from that store.

if I have macbook, iPad and iPhone, does it make sense to get all from one source, being the app store?

The choice is yours, the main decision of yours is: do you wish to used iCloud syncing (anytime now or in the future). If so then go with the app store. Other than that one little difference they are identical.
I use the web Mac version with iOS from the app store. So there is not a issue with that setup.

I have web ver 4.4.1 and wish to convert to App Store ver.. Do I need to run updates first, for 4.4.1?, or can I just follow the link above for switching?
Should I have any concern with losing existing master vault? and should the App store ver see the master vault, or will it need to be imported?
Ran recent backup.0 -
Hi @pajacla,
You can just follow the guide. Our support files and locations haven't changed since 4.4.1 so whether you upgrade or simply move to the Mac App Store (MAS) version, it won't make any difference. The MAS version will still import your vault from the AWS location and ask you for your existing Master Password. You will have to set up the MAS version in terms of preferences and syncing but the important part, your vault, will migrate automatically.

completed transition without a hitch, working also on my two iOS devices and my macbook as intended.
My wife and I have seperate logins and apple ID accounts, but share the macbook, does she have to get her own copy or is there a way for us to share the app that I downloaded? If not could I wifi it to her iPad or iPhone?0 -
Hi @pajacla,

Yes, all sync options are still supported if you want that.

We're glad to hear that.
My wife and I have seperate logins and apple ID accounts, but share the macbook, does she have to get her own copy or is there a way for us to share the app that I downloaded? If not could I wifi it to her iPad or iPhone?
Are you guys using the Family Sharing feature from Apple to share app purchases on your Mac and/or iOS devices?
She doesn't have to get her own copy, your purchase covers up to 6 family members in the same household. You can either use the Family Sharing to let her download her own copy for free at the Mac App Store or you can sign into your AppleID in her Mac App Store app, download 1Password, and sign out. That's not a problem for us.
I hope this helps, let us know if there is anything we can help with.

when she logs in, the 1Password app is in launchpad, so no problem. now it wants to know where her data is, and gives options of iCloud, dropbox, backup etc, I dont know if I choose icloud and put my apple user ID and password in, because that is where the master vault resides, but if I do choose that, will she always have to put my ID in, to access the vault?

what I wanted to do, was have all of her apple devices (which all have, the 1password app) and all of mine in sync with my iCloud ID, but we have separate apple ID's.
is this possible, or not?0 -
I'll try to answer your questions so far as I can.
My wife and I have seperate logins and apple ID accounts, but share the macbook, does she have to get her own copy or is there a way for us to share the app that I downloaded?
The first thing you need to confirm, please, is that you bought 1P from the Mac App Store rather than from the AgileBits store. Go to 1P > About 1Password and tell us exactly what it says there. If you bought from the Mac App Store your wife can download the app from the Mac App Store without paying again only if she uses your Apple ID (which you say she doesn't) or if you're both running OS X Yosemite and have enabled family sharing.
what I wanted to do, was have all of her apple devices (which all have, the 1password app) and all of mine in sync with my iCloud ID, but we have separate apple ID's.
iCloud sync of 1P data will not work if you have separate Apple IDs. Of course, you could still use Dropbox or local wifi to sync 1P data between you.

Hi @pajacla,
I hope that Stephen_C's answer here helped you out. He's correct: your 1Password data cannot be shared between multiple AppleIDs. If you'd like help getting set up with Dropbox or Wi-Fi sync, please let us know - we'd be happy to help!

Should I have concern for security differences between iCloud and Dropbox, if I decide to use both, due to wanting to share the master vault between two Apple ID users?

Hi @pajacla,
First a little clarification in case we've inadvertently misguided you at all. While the MAS version can make use of both iCloud and Dropbox sync you can't use both at the same time for a single vault. A vault can be synced either via iCloud or Dropbox but not both at the same time. Wi-Fi Sync is handled a little differently and you can use Wi-Fi Sync in conjunction with another sync method although Wi-Fi Sync is between a single Mac and a single or multiple iOS devices.
I mention that just in case something we'd said previously was open to various interpretations.
So as you've already discovered, you shouldn't need to do anything to allow your wife to use 1Password for Mac if you've installed it via your user account and you simply want her to have access from another user account on the same machine even if you have different Apple IDs.
The trouble, as you're already aware, is you can't use iCloud Sync to share a synced vault between Apple IDs.
You have two main options.
- Dropbox. It's easy, one account could be used between you or if you have separate Dropbox accounts already you can share a folder between your two accounts. It's platform agnostic so will cover all of your devices. I don't believe there are fundamental differences in security between iCloud and Dropbox that mean one should be feared over the over. Don't forget, whichever method you choose all they will have access to is the encrypted vault. What they store and transmit to your devices is all encrypted, it doesn't get decrypted until it's locally on your device.
- Wi-Fi Sync in conjunction with Folder Sync. This isn't as easy as Dropbox and requires a little more effort than Dropbox which is pretty much set and forget. As you have a single Mac and multiple iOS devices that you want to sync a Primary vault over it would work and we could help you set that up. The gotcha to be aware of is while e have made it more automated recently you still need to have both 1Password for Mac and iOS open at the same time for them to sync while with Dropbox, it holds the sync data for when your devices are ready.
If you have any further questions please do ask. Hopefully that helped but if it only raised more questions we'll certainly do our best to answer
