Upgrading to 1Password 4/Problems with older 1Password Keychain

I'm attempting to upgrade a 1Password keychain from 1Password v. 3 to 1 Password v.4. I have placed the 1Password 3 keychain in a folder on the Finder. After opening 1Password 4 and then navigating to the 1Password v3 keychain as directed, after inputing my master password, I get a dialog box stating, "Failed to unlock. Cannot load keychain profile."

What is the problem?

    Hi @Just Macintosh

I have a couple of questions.

    1. Do you still have 1Password 3 on this machine?
    2. When you say you open 1Password 4 and navigate to the 1Password 3 .agilekeychain do you mean you're stating that you're an existing user and pointing 1Password 4 to the .agilekeychain that way?

Once we know the answers to these questions we'll be in a better place to assist.

I did not have 1Password 3 on my iMac.

Regarding your second question, that's exactly what I did. I don't know if this matters, but my 1Password 3 keychain was named "1Password.agilekeychain"

    Hi @Just Macintosh,

It sounds like you followed the correct steps, so I'm not sure why it is giving you that error. Let's try this in a slightly different way:

    • Open the 1Password app and set it up as a new user (create the same master password that you used in 1Password 3)
    • Once you've created your new, empty vault in 1Password, go to the menu for 1Password > Preferences
    • Select the Sync tab, and choose Folder Sync
    • Click the Choose button, then select your 1Password.agilekeychain file
    • Follow any additional prompts to complete the Folder sync setup

Does that work, or does it still give you the same (or similar) error?

I followed your suggestion but was unable to recover the passwords. When I created the new vault in 1Password 4, I used the same Master Password that was associated with the 1Password.agilekeychain. I did notice that the date of the 1Password.agilekeychain was modified.

    Hi @Just Macintosh

I may need to bend the ear of a developer on Monday regarding this. Can I just ask, where did you obtain this copy of the 1Password.agilkeychain? I ask because one culprit is a partially synced Dropbox. If that could apply to you it might be that not everything in the package (it isn't a single file) had synced before you copied it?

Do stay in touch regarding this matter.
