A number of issues with multiple devices
Hello - I was looking for a support email address but couldn't find one so figured I'd post a topic here.
I have 1password installed on two macs - one has version 5 installed and the other thinks it's version 4 but actually when I look at the version number it says 3.8.22. My first question is how do I update the 3.8.22 version to version 5? Every time I check for updates it says I'm on the latest version.
My second question is how do I sync these two apps so that I can sign into either one and see all my passwords? I tried creating a backup from the 3.8.22 version and then restoring from that backup on the version 5 one but I can't open the backup files from version 5. If they're not compatible then I guess an answer to my previous question will resolve this question.
Finally I have no idea how to get the web extension for Chrome to work. I've tried every work around and guide that I could find via Google and nothing can get me past the message that says "The 1Password app must be installed correctly ...". None of the suggestions in the "why isn't this working" link work either. Actually as I'm writing this I'm wondering if it's because my installation that thinks it's on version 4 is actually on version 3 and therefore isn't compatible with the plugin? I think I read that you need at least version 4 somewhere... So if this is the case then an answer to my first question would again resolve this one!
Thanks,
James

Hi James,

I think you're on the right track here: getting 1Password 5 on the second Mac should help everything else fall into place.
There is no direct way to update from version 3.8 to version 5, but you can download the latest version of 1Password 5 from our website, install it, and register it with your license file (which I've resent to the email address you have registered on the forum). 1Password 5 can co-exist with 1Password 3 on the same Mac, so you shouldn't run into any trouble there.
Once you have version 5 on both Macs, check to see if the Chrome extension starts working. Then, I'd recommend syncing the two computers using either iCloud or Dropbox. Our excellent sync guide can help walk you through that.
I hope the update goes well for you. Give us an update if you run into any bumps!
