How to delete ALL 1p5 files and programs from my mac and reinstall using a backup data file
I just found out (error messages) that when I disconnect my external hard drive from my computer, 1P5 For Mac does NOT operate. It requires the external hard drive to be connected. I also found out that the backup files are stored in the Library/Application Support/1Password4/Backups folder on my computer's hard drive.
I also get error messages that there are 2 copies of 1 password program on computer and that I need to resolve it so there's only one.
You can see that things are all screwed up.
I want to correct the situation. My initial thought is to delete ALL FILES OF 1P5 on my mac (saving the backup data prior to doing so) and then to reinstall a fresh copy of 1P5 and use the saved backup data to reinstall my data. I also want to save my backup data in a special folder I have created where I keep all my other programs' saved backup data files. Finally, I don't want any more hassles when I upgrade to the next version of 1p5, as this is when all the problems start.
PLEASE reply with SPECIFIC and DETAILED INSTRUCTIONS on how to get out of this mess.
thankyou

Hi @dan777,
I'm sorry to hear that you're having trouble with 1Password! I'll do what I can to help you get sorted out.
I just found out (error messages) that when I disconnect my external hard drive from my computer, 1P5 For Mac does NOT operate. It requires the external hard drive to be connected.
Are you currently using Folder Sync to store your datafile on the external drive? 1Password does require that the sync source of your data be available at all times, so if you're syncing to a removable drive, 1Password will notify you when it cannot access that drive. Could you please provide the exact text of the error message so we can see if this is indeed what's going on?
I also get error messages that there are 2 copies of 1 password program on computer and that I need to resolve it so there's only one.
It's true, Yosemite can get a bit finicky when there are multiple versions of 1Password installed. The error message that you saw there should provide you the path of the rogue copy of 1Password. To resolve this:
- Find the rogue copy of 1Password using the path in the error message
- Drag it to the Trash
- Empty the Trash
- Restart your computer
I also want to save my backup data in a special folder I have created where I keep all my other programs' saved backup data files.
1Password's backups are made to a default location and cannot be moved. You are welcome to copy or move the data into the other location that you have chosen, but new backups will always be made to the same folder in /Application Support. We've found this ensures that backups are consistently made and are available when the user needs them.
I don't think we need to do a full reinstall of 1Password here, but please let me know if you have any questions about the instructions above. :)
