Hi

The email accounts. Is there a way that the login details is populated to the web-clients? So I configure the email account once in 1Password, the the account settings are then updated for the email client in all devices. Using apple mail on mac, ipad, iphone...

Thanks

Olof

    Hi @oloff,

I'm not quite sure I understand your question:

The email accounts. Is there a way that the login details is populated to the web-clients?

Are you asking about logging into an email account on a website (like gmail.com, hotmail.com, etc)? Or are you asking about storing details about email accounts so you can use that to set up an email client?

If you want to use 1Password to help log into a website, you'll need to create a Login item. If you want to store email account details for use in an email client, you'll probably want to create an Email Account item instead. We have information on the different item categories in 1Password on this page of our User Guide.

So I configure the email account once in 1Password, the the account settings are then updated for the email client in all devices. Using apple mail on mac, ipad, iphone...

Are you asking how you can sync your 1Password data from your Mac to your iOS devices? If you have 1Password 5 for Mac and 1Password 5 for iOS, you can sync them using iCloud, Dropbox, or Wi-Fi sync (please note, iCloud sync requires the Mac App Store version of 1Password 5 for Mac).

I hope that helps to answer your questions, but please let us know if I misunderstood, or if you need anything else. :)

Thanks for your quick response. I will try to clarify my question. I am looking for a solution for email account in classic email clients. I use Apple's built in client. In the Mac there are account settings from the application (and system preference). In iphone/ipad there are account settings in system preferences. It's the account settings in the different system/application preferences I wonder if 1password can sync? Benefit: If I change password for my email account it replicates to all devices.

1Password can't sync credentials to native applications on the Mac. Mail on the Mac is an application, so it can't log you in there.

On iOS devices, 1Password can only submit credentials to applications if the developer inserts special code to allow the application to exchange information with 1Password. Apple hasn't seen fit to do so for the Mail client in iOS, so that doesn't work either. Copy and paste are required for what I understand that you wish to do.

  • Hi guys,

    @oloff:

Hawkmoth is correct, there is no way for us to push the data securely to other apps to fill the data in except for one solution. That's the iOS extension that has to be manually implemented by the iOS app developer in each app. For Apple to support 1Password filling in their mail clients, they'd have to adopt our extension to fill in your data, which is not likely to happen as they have their own solution for this such as iCloud Keychain.

As hawkmoth mentioned, you'd have to update the password in 1Password, save it, sync it to your devices, and copy the password there before pasting it in the account settings of your Mail client on each platform.

Thanks for your responses! I don't know if possible or of many interest - but maybe it would work with other apps? Like Mailbox or gmail iOS app,

    Hi @oloff,

Sadly because of how extensions work it's up to each individual developer. The extension is open for anybody to add and here's a list of iOS apps known to have done so. Each developer though has to add our extension to their project - it's just how Apple designed it.

We hope others add it too of course
