Master Password Changed To Apple ID?

I just had something strange happen. I just attempeted to enter my master password and it was not being accepted. Just for testing I entered my Apple ID and it worked. I logged in and out a few times and it stayed the same. I used the the other password last night and unless I got really drunk and decided to change it then blacked out, which would be odd since I don't drink, I have no idea how this happened. I would never use the same password for both.

Can someone help tell me exactly how I did this so I don't do it again?

  • Hi @Erieg,

It is not possible to change the master password without entering the old one since that's a requirement for any encryption protocols.

Can you give us more details as to where you're entering your master password, is it in the main 1Password app or the extension?

It is possible to have two separate 1Password apps with two separate data files that have different master passwords and we've seen this in the past.

When you unlock your vault, is the data in 1Password what you expected or does it seem like old data like you may have experimented in a trial version before?

To change the master password, open the main application and go to the 1Password Menu > Preferences > Security to click on Change Master Password.
