Memory leak in Safari 1Password extension?
Over the past couple of days my Safari memory use has slowly grown over time, until the "memory pressure" graph in Activity Monitor turns red and the computer starts to not respond. The specific web handlers which appear to be "at fault" (using the most memory) always seem to include my gmail page, but it seems like the memory used across the board grows over time. I would see the memory use increasing several megabytes per minute with Activity Monitor open. When this first happened, I force-quit Safari, then restarted; a few hours later I was in the red again. So, I restarted the whole computer. A few hours later, back in the red. After that, I started just killing the "top" memory consuming web handlers for Safari in the Activity Monitor (the pages would reload themselves and go on just fine, but the memory growth would return immediately). This had to be done every couple of hours of use (if the machine is sleeping there is no growth, as one might expect).
I disabled all Safari extensions, and observed Activity Monitor - no growth in memory use on any of the web handlers for Safari. I then started re-enabling them one by one. When I added 1Password back on, the memory growth came back. I disabled all plugins again, noted that the memory growth stopped for an hour, then turned 1Password back on again. This time, with only 1Password enabled, the memory use started increasing again.
It seems to be a pretty clear case of a memory leak in 1Password. Is this a known issue?

Hi @TomDibble,
I think it would help if we knew more about the versions of everything concerned. That includes:
- OS X
- Safari
- The 1Password extension
I would also be interested in what you experience if you disable all extensions with the exception of 1Password's and then reboot your Mac completely. Does the issue persist?
I ask because like most of the team here I'm running 1Password all day. I'm a Safari user myself and I've never noticed this. Once we have a better idea we can look into why. Just to add though, the latest stable extension was released back in October of 2014 and I've not personally come across any reports like this yet. It doesn't mean you're not experiencing an issue, just it doesn't seem to be widespread.

After more investigation, it seems like the AdBlock extension is causing the same issue when it is enabled alone as well, leading me to believe something has gone sideways with Safari's extensions mechanism. I'll try following up with Apple to see what is going on (and in the meantime it looks like Chrome is going to be getting a lot more use on my desktop).

Hi @TomDibble,
Thanks for letting us know! That seems very strange, and hopefully Apple will help you get to the bottom of that problem. We'd love to hear how it turns out, if you don't mind.
If you need anything else, we're here for you! :)
