What determines whether autofill works or not???
I've talked about this one difficult website before, the one for my AT&T Universal Card. I have that and one other "citibank" underwritten card. When I select the 1Password login for the other site, it works perfectly. The username and password autofill into the webpage in the proper fields and the desired page loads in due time. And up to a few months ago, precisely the same worked for the ATT Universal site. But then, out of the blue, the site stopped filling the password. The username, yes, password, no. So I have to manually enter the password. Then just today, again, out of the blue, it stopped filling either... Now, I have to fill them both.
What causes this behavior of this or any other website??? Why do two sites, the logins for which look almost identical, though granted they do go to two different URL's, autofill on one but not on the other??? And why would one day the autofill of the password cease and then (today) the username cease to fill as well???
By the way, I do have the preference in 1Password set that says Automate Submit Logins After Filling. I also have the box checked that says "Animate Form Filling". Might that be part of the problem???
Lastly, this login used to have the a, b, c, d entries like you see if you go this thread.
https://discussions.agilebits.com/discussion/comment/152514/#Comment_152514
But neither of these logins for the citibank sites, neither the one that works nor the one that doesn't, have such anymore... Curious. But I never understood what those a, b, c, d entries were about anyway.
I log on to these sites often and the ATT Universal one is almost back to just being a pure manual entry. I'm more curious than lazy. I will put it in manually but I just always wonder why two almost identical sites from the same overarching bank behave so differently...
Any thoughts on what I might do to be able to auto enter the username, password, or best of all, both??? Sorry if this is a repeat but this is going the wrong way now that I've lost the ability to even autofill the username... Again, more curious than lazy...
thanks... bob

And now I see it's even a bit worse than I thought because before whatever happened today, I could still easily go up to the menubar 1Password mini deal and it would be guessing that the login I wanted was the one I call "univ". And from there I could quickly get the password. But it would appear that just today, citi has removed from the URL any refererence that would allow a guess of the login of interest to be the universal card login. Instead it shows me now the citi login (the other card) that it never showed before today. So citi must have changed the referenced URL just today.
So again, any advice on what I might be able to do with this Universal Card login??? thanks.. bob

Hi @diitto,
I'm sorry you're having trouble with that Login! Unfortunately Citi login sites don't always play nice with 1Password. If your Login item hasn't changed but it no longer works correctly on that page, the first thing to do is try manually saving a new Login for that site.
Let us know if that helps. To answer your questions:
What causes this behavior of this or any other website???
Login pages often change as websites are updated, which can sometimes cause a previously working Login item to no longer work correctly. Manually saving a new Login allows 1Password to refresh everything it "knows" about the page.
Why do two sites, the logins for which look almost identical, though granted they do go to two different URL's, autofill on one but not on the other???
Although two different login pages may look similar, there can be underlying differences in the way those pages work. For example, the field names might be completely different. (I suppose you could think of it as two houses that look identical from the outside, but are very different on the inside.)
And why would one day the autofill of the password cease and then (today) the username cease to fill as well???
Again, this is mostly likely due to changes being made to the website itself.
I hope this helps! Let us know if manually saving a new Login helps, thanks!

Thanks for the response. I am aware of the method for manually saving a new login. In fact, that raises a question which is, is the "other way" or the "automatic way" to save a new login the process of checking the box in the 1Password Preferences under the Browser heading that says "Automatically ask to save new logins?"... Is that the "other method?".. I ask because I want to make sure I understand all the various methods for creating logins because I could easily be missing something that would be valuable if I understood. I don't have the above mentioned box clicked because it tends to ask me to save logins that I don't want saved as a 1Password login. So I instead leave it unchecked and I always manually create logins when I need them. So are there more than the two methods (auto and manual) discussed here???
It seems like these days when I make a login for this Universal Card site, it just saves the URL, the username and the password with nothing more saved. I used to see other "stuff" such as the "a, b, d, d" deal I spoke about in a recent post or other little nuance details that were needed for the login to work. But now, all I ever see is the three items I mentioned above. Is that all there is ever supposed to be in a login???
Anyway, I will forge ahead with this one difficult site.
thanks for the help.... bob

Hi @diitto,
You're correct, there are basically 2 ways to save a Login item from the 1Password extension in your browser:
Automatic (i.e. Autosave): 1Password automatically prompts you to save a new Login item the first time you log into a site (or if you log in with different credentials). As you already know, you can turn that off by disabling the Automatically ask to save new Logins option in the 1Password preferences.
Manual: You fill your login credentials on a site and then choose Save new Login from the 1Password extension (or 1Password mini). This saves a Login item the same way as the "automatic" method - the only difference is that you are manually triggering 1Password to ask you to save it.
Technically, you can also create a Login item from the 1Password app by going to File > New Item > Login, but we don't recommend this method because it won't be able to save information about the web form details for that site.
Speaking of web form details, that's the "other stuff" you mentioned which you used to see in your Logins. That information is still there, you just need to click the show web form details button in the 1Password app. Those details are hidden by default to avoid confusion.
Hopefully that helps to clear up the confusion. If you have more questions, just let us know! :)

I’ve found a possible work around for my troublesome Universal Card login. I’ve made a login that connects through a sort of generic citicard login page. I’ve entered the username and password into the login. But I can only make it work if I then manually click “Sign On” after the information gets entered.
So I went into the login and selected “Never Submit” next to the Submit (or not) heading. When I initiate this login, it goes to the page, enters the username but it leaves the password blank. Though it’s not a big deal, it would be more useful if it put in the password but waited then for me to click the “Sign On” button. As is, I have to manually enter the password and then click "Sign On". Still better than what I had before but, again it would be even more useful if it would also enter the password and then wait for me to click "Sign On".
Is there something I could do to have the login also enter the password but just stop at that point??? Or is what I have the best I can get???
thanks… bob

Hi @diitto,
Can I ask a favour please. Can you supply the specific URL you used to use and this generic login page URL. I don't have one of these universal cards (not even in the right country) but it might be the case that knowing exactly what login pages you're currently fighting with could help. If we can help create a Login item that behaves better we certainly will.
