How do I download 1Password 5 from App Store without paying for it again?

I want use iCloud sync on a laptop I'm resurrecting but it says I need the App Store version to enable it. App Store wants $49.99 to download it. Trouble is I already have a paid-up license; I just want to install it on another computer. What should I do?

If you bought a license from the Mac App Store, you can download another copy by signing in there with the same Apple ID you used to buy your copy. Then click on the Purchases tab to see a list of all your purchases. There will be a download button to click to get the new copy.

If you did not by your license from Apple, but instead bought it from the AgileBits web store, you won't be able to get a copy from the Mac App Store without paying for it. If you did buy from AgileBits, they have a 30 day money back period. If that applies to you, ask for a refund and then buy another copy from Apple.

Thanks for your input, hawkmoth. It's been over a month since I bought 1Password 5 from Agilebits. I think it's pretty bogus I would have to pay for it twice to be able to sync through iCloud. How bush league! I guess I'll just have to go back to syncing through Dropbox.

Dan_H, I'd try contacting AgileBits for a refund anyway, even though you're past the date in their policy. As Captain Jack Sparrow notes "Actually, they're more like guidelines."

You are an edge case, someone who wants to remain a customer, not someone who expects to use a product for months and then get his money back. They may be able to accommodate you. (I don't speak for AgileBits, being only a happy customer.)

Thanks, Rick. I can't find an email address for them. Do you happen to know what it is?

  • Hi @Dan_H,

Email support+licenses@agilebits.com with all of the information (purchase date, order id, order email), and we'll see what we can do.
