1Password 3 deemed invalid?
Dearest AgileBits,
I have been using your products since Nov of 2012 (both mobile and desktop -- requiring two paid licenses). I have also enrolled family members as well as recommended your service to countless friends. What a shock to learn that my license for 1Password 3 was deemed invalid without warning as I was forced to uninstall and upgrade to a trial version (not to mention several browser plugins on multiple computers). You can imagine my dismay when my mother could not figure out how to access her passwords. To this day I still think she is unable to get to them. Your decision to discontinue your product without warning was not only inconsiderate, it was downright reckless. People use your product to store vital and important information. Discontinuing access to this information without so much as a warning or professional email is truly infuriating. I would have preferred to discuss this is private with a customer service rep but am being made to broadcast my frustrations bc you do not provide a means to chat one on one. If my information wasn't so throughly entangled in your product I would be switching to Last Pass. I'm not one to rant, I don't do this often. But now that my "trial" version has expired -- for the record there is no trial for a service I was already using -- requiring that I purchase two new licenses to access my most important information borders on extortion. Please contact me at your earliest convenience so we can resolve this matter.

I'm so sorry to hear that you're having trouble with 1Password! We are still providing support for 1Password 3, there is no reason that it should stop working. Could you please explain a little bit more about the error message that you saw?

If this was the case, I would certainly agree with you! We know that people rely on 1Password, and we would never do anything that would keep people away from their important data. That's one of the benefits of offering 1Password as an app, rather than a service. Services can be discontinued, but apps will continue to function.
So, let's see what we can do to get this app back up and running for you! Please let us know a little bit about where this message came from and we'll work from there. If you would prefer to discuss this one-on-one, the details can be sent to support+forums@agilebits.com. (Just post a brief note here when you do email in so that we can quickly track your message down and ensure that it is answered quickly!)

Cannot provide a specific date but my browser plugins began hollering at me that they were using an outdated version of 1Password and that I would need to install a newer plug in. As far as I can tell there is no browser plugin support for 1Password 3. So after updating the plugins I was required to update my desktop app. If I can't use browser plugins with 1Password 3 then your service is of little use to me as I would have to copy and paste from the desktop app and lose the auto fill feature. While the app may persist the browser plugin support seems to have been discontinued. My mother experienced the same thing.

You can go to this page, scroll down until you see the version 3 browser extension you want, choose your browser and download it.
However it's certainly possible, I suppose, that more up to date versions of the respective browsers may no longer support the 1P3 browser extensions.

Many thanks @Stephen_C While this list is helpful, all of my browsers were complaining about the version 3 plugins even before I upgraded the desktop app to the most recent version. Alas it is my impression that they no longer support them. @Megan are we at an impasse here? Truth be told, if my browsers cannot support older plugins for 1Password I have no choice but to swap for Last Pass as it is more economically viable at $12.99/yr rather than the cost of upgrading 1Password (having already invested roughly $80 btwn desktop and mobile apps).

Hi @jlevinson,
Thanks for clarifying the situation. I've honestly not heard of browsers complaining about old extensions before, that's a new one!
That being said, if you are diligent with upgrading your operating systems (and I don't see any mention above of which operating system you're on, so this is merely a general statement) and keeping your browsers up to date with the latest versions, you may see occasional glitches with the 'older' 1Password 3 browser extensions, simply because they were designed to work with much earlier versions of the browsers - and a lot can change in a few versions! Of course, we're more than happy to troubleshoot any of these issues as they come up. And if you would like to continue to use 1Password 3, I can advise you on how to roll back to this version, and we can work through whatever error messages come your way.
Just to get a few details here, could you let me know what the version number of your operating system is, and which browsers you're using (along with their version numbers)? 1Password 3 hasn't been extensively tested in Apple's newest OS X 10.10 (Yosemite), but we do have users running this configuration with little trouble.
Of course, if you are running the latest and greatest version of OS X, I can tell you that 1Password 5 was designed specifically for this operating system, and that there are a lot of great features built into 1Password since version 3 ... but I doubt you want to hear a sales pitch right now, so let's start with the version numbers and move forward from there.
