Cleaning up 1password
Hi,
I've been using 1password for a while now and noticed I've got loads of duplicate entries. What's the best way to,clean these up?
I don't want to delete the wrong one, if maybe one contains the right password and the other doesn't.
Thanks

Hi @DenisCooper,
I can only imagine syncing must have gone awry at some point in the past for that to happen.
Now depending on how long this has been since it happened and how many items you have added and changed since then you have two options.
- Revert to a backup created prior to this syncing blip. As you can imagine, this is only practical it happened very recently and you've made little to no changes or additions.
- Manually make your way through the database, clearing them up one by one.
If option 1. is possible then it would be best to know where you use 1Password as reverting to a previous backup will mean resetting 1Pasword in multiple locations (otherwise whatever happened before may simply happen again).
If option 2. is the only feasible option then what I would recommend is comparing the duplicates. If they contain different data e.g. passwords then one trick would to edit the titles of both and add a
1
and2
respectively. That way you can try both Login items, discover which works and delete the other. It'll probably be time intensive I'm afraid but it's the only way to ensure you don' lose anything that might be important.Keep us informed.

right, sorry for the delay in getting back, i;m going through manually, but what appears to be happening is if i log into a website without using 1password, but 1password has already stored my password, it asks if it wants to save it, rather than recognising it's already stored, and then creates a duplicate entry

Hi @DenisCooper,
No problem for the delay, we're always happy to help! :)
Is this happening for every website/Login that already exists in 1Password, or just one/some? You mentioned that this happens when logging in without using 1Password, does that mean it doesn't prompt to save a new Login item if you use 1Password to sign in? Out of curiosity, when you don't use 1Password to log in, are you manually typing your username/password, or copying/pasting from 1Password, or using another method?
Also, if you choose to save a new Login when prompted, then go back and log into the same site again, does 1Password prompt you to save a new Login again?
