iCloud Syncing Enigma
Hi.
I've just upgraded from Mavericks toYosemite, and the update threw up a notification that there was an update to 1Password (Version 4 to Version 5?)
So I accepted the upgrade and I was immediately confronted with a 'problem detected' flag, which referred to iCloud syncing. I clicked on something which led to an explanation that only 1Password from the Mac App Store now allowed iCloud syncing, and told me why this was.
Okay, fair enough. So to have the 'right' version I bought 1Password again from the Mac App Store, believing that the new version from there would replace my old version bought direct. But it didn't do that, and I found myself with two 1Password apps in my app folder, one called 1Password and the other called 1Password 5.
I think the that right one to keep was the 1Password 5 one, so that is what I did. But I still seem unable to set up iCloud syncing.
Where am I going wrong here please? I am completely confused, as well as being £44 or so out of pocket.

1Password 5.app is the version from the AgileBits store. 1Password.app is the version from the Mac App Store. You need the latter, as you surmise, for iCloud sync of 1P data.
I suggest you do this:
- Drag the 1Password 5 app to the trash (don't use any app cleaner tool, which is likely to try to delete files you need to keep).
- Empty the trash and reboot.
- Re-download 1P from the Mac App Store and re-install 1P.
You should then find that all is well.

Hi @kwoffa,
I'm sorry that you're experiencing this. What @Stephen_C said is correct. You want 1Password.app. We've gone back and forth on what the correct/expected behavior is here for users when they download the app from the other source. We hate it when it creates confusion like that. But we also hate the thought of a user having their old app overwritten without their explicit consent.
If you have never before run 1Password from the Mac App Store, the first time you run it, it'll detect that you had 1Password from the AgileBits store, and it will copy your data into its database. So you should start out with the same data. If you have previously run 1Password from the Mac App Store, it will already have its own database and your data would not be copied. If that's the case let us know and we can help you get that data over.
I hope this helps. Let us know how it goes.

Oops... chose the wrong one to trash then.
I will re-download the right one from the app store again; hopefully it should still be available for me to download as I've already purchased it.

Okay. Thanks Stephen & Rick for pointing me in the right direction.
I have followed Stephen's steps, having retrieved the correct version again from the App Store and trashed the '1Password 5' version. It installed okay, and it has all my logins etc in it from the previous versions.
It didn't throw up a 'Cannot sync with iCloud' message, and iCloud now appears under Preferences > Sync. So all now appears to be well.
Thanks again. :)
