trouble downloading 1password from appstore

Hello! Last year I bought the full version of 1Password and downloaded it on my iPhone.
I love the app, and want to install it on my Mac too. This is where the trouble start:

I have synced my devises with iTunes, 1Password pops up in the list of purchases.
iTunes obviously understand that I have bought the app via appstore on my iPhone, so far so well.
What i dont understand is how i can download the app on my computer, without paying again.

When I click the 1Password app in appstore to download it on my computer, i have to accept to pay again (hit the green button to accept the price).
Will I get charged again, or is it just false warning?
If i will get charged, how do I avoid it?

Can you please help me?

Best regards
Securesanta

1P for iOS and 1P for Mac are completely separate products. The purchase of one does not affect the purchase of the other in any way.

Put briefly, if you want 1P for Mac I'm afraid you have to buy it.

What happend is that I did download 1Password on my mac, with the same purchase, when i first baught it.
That worked perfect, until I got a new job and I tried to install in on my new Mac.

I dont really understand that there is two different products for iOS and Mac, that comes as a surprise.
Isn´t syncing between different devices part og 1passwords benefits, are we supposed to pay two times to make it work?

    Hi @Santasecure,

As Stephen explained, the Mac and iOS versions of 1Password are separate products that are sold separately. Sorry for any confusion about that!

I dont really understand that there is two different products for iOS and Mac, that comes as a surprise.

Because Mac computers and iOS devices run different operating systems, they use different apps. If you purchased the iOS version of 1Password, that covers all your iOS devices associated with the same Apple ID you used to buy it. The Mac version of 1Password requires a separate purchase.

What happend is that I did download 1Password on my mac, with the same purchase, when i first baught it.

1Password for Mac can be purchased from our web store or from the Mac App Store. If you downloaded 1Password for Mac without paying for it, it sounds like you downloaded the free trial available on our download site. You're more than welcome to download that on your new Mac and try it out before deciding if you want to buy a license. The trial version is fully functional for 30 days. After that, you would need to either buy a license from our web store to activate that version, or purchase the version available on the Mac App Store.

Isn´t syncing between different devices part og 1passwords benefits, are we supposed to pay two times to make it work?

The ability to sync your 1Password data is really a separate issue. The iOS and Mac versions of 1Password each have sync options. If you have 1Password 5 for Mac and 1Password 5 for iOS, you can sync them using iCloud, Dropbox, or Wi-Fi sync (please note, the web store version of 1Password 5 for Mac does not have the iCloud sync feature).

I hope this helps to clear up the confusion, but please let us know if you have additional questions about that - we're here for you!

    Hi @Santasecure,

AgileBits could have decided that one purchase covered all platforms. If they had done so, many people (Including myself) would have objected to having to pay for use on Windows, Android, and iOS, when they were only using Macs. It's a no-win situation for Agile, whichever method they used would have upset some users. Separate purchases for each platform seems simplest to me.

Unfortunately there isn't a way to bundle different platforms when they're sold from different stores, not given each platform is meant to be a standalone version of the product that can be used independently. Some companies might charge you for the desktop version and release a free helper app that only works in conjunction with the desktop version or some might charge a subscription and they you simply download the versions you need as none will work without the account you have with the company. We do neither, each version is intended to work completely independently so that you only purchase the ones you need. Take iTunes and MAS, we can't offer a free version that is unlocked by a code we sell, that's against Apple's policies and would see us kicked out of their stores straight away.

As Drew has covered, syncing is independent of the licence. It might be you only want to sync multiple devices of the same platform e.g. you have two iOS devices you wish to keep synced but no Macs and vice versa. Obviously though syncing between platforms is often the desired goal but it isn't a requirement to use the feature.

So sadly if each is to be viewed as independent then there is no way to bundle iOS with MAS or any other platform. Maybe Apple and Google will introduce the ability to offer selective discounted rates in their stores but at the moment it's not something available to us.

Let us know if you have any more questions @Santasecure
