Mac-1Password 4 iCloud-sync with iOS-1Password 5?
Can I sync between Mac OS X 10.9 with 1Password 4 and iOS 8.2 with 1Password 5 using iCloud?
So far sync is happening between two iOS-devices I have but not between those and my Mac. All have iCould sync enabled.
If this is indeed possible, why wouldn't it be working then?
Best wishes - Nikolaj

Hi @niklicht,
Unfortunately you can't. Due to the large changes made to iCloud when Apple released iCloud Drive, iCloud Sync is now limited to just instances 1Password 4 (and you can't have upgraded to iCloud Drive anywhere) or just instances of 1Password 5 (where you will need to have upgraded to iCloud Drive).
The reason is when Apple released iCloud Drive they completely revamped iCloud Sync and turned it into something called CloudKit. As it was meant to be a significant improvement over the old system we decided to adopt it. Unfortunately iCloud Drive and CloudKit are limited to iOS 8 and Yosemite only and to those applications purchased via one of Apple's Stores. As all iOS apps have to be purchased from iTunes they're fine but it sadly meant a feature disparity between our Agile Web Store (AWS) and Apple's Mac App Store (MAS) version of 1Password for Mac.
In your case you have either Wi-Fi Sync or Dropbox. Dropbox is still one of the better options out there thanks to its cross platform and even cross version support.
If you have any follow up questions do please ask

Hi littlebobbytables,
First kudos for your username, that xkcd-cartoon can still make me laugh...
OK, I understand, thank you for replying. I do vaguely remember now having read about the incompabilities somewhere time ago.
I wanted to switch away from Dropbox because I try to eliminate Dropbox all together after Condoleeza Rice was appointed board member, and I don't trust Dropbox in relation to NSA either.
Seems I may have to either return to Dropbox or upgrade the Mac to 10.10.
Even though I do understand AgileBits' decision, it's a bit of a pity.0 -
Hi @niklicht,
I'm glad the answer from @littlebobbytables helped to explain that. And yes, his username & avatar are pretty great! :)
I'm glad you're thinking strongly about the security of your data. I wanted to let you know that we're very confident about storing 1Password data in the cloud (including both iCloud and Dropbox), and you can find more information about the security of your 1Password data in the cloud here: Is it safe to sync my data over the cloud?
Also, have you considered Wi-Fi sync? That will also work between 1Password 4 for Mac and 1Password 5 for iOS, and doesn't involve the cloud at all. You can find more information about Wi-Fi sync here.
We're here for you if you have more questions about that! :)
