Hello all, I am brand new to 1password and the site. I was so concerned about creating a master password during initial set up I completely ignored giving the vault a name. For the life of me I cannot figure to how to give a name for my vault. If anyone could give me any help I would greatly appreciate it.

@fiveonomo - The first vault is named Primary by default, and you can't change that. Is that what you're referring to? Or have you created a secondary vault that is now named Secondary, even though you would have preferred another name?

If it's the second option, you'll have to delete the new secondary vault and create a new one. Name it as you create it. There currently is no way to change the name of an existing vault, although that's a frequent request for users. It could come in the future, although no promises have been published by the developers.

If this is indeed about a secondary vault, before you delete it, copy all the records in it to the new, properly named replacement.

hawkmoth, thank you so much for helping me out. I just purchased 1password for the first time today, and during normal setup I was thinking they asked for me to name the vault, I could be wrong. So when I log into 1password and look at the menu to the left, I see From the top running down, All Items, Favorites...Then Categories logins, secure notes, etc.. I thought at the very top I would have a name of the vault, there is no name there. I have not created any other vaults and have entered nothing into the existing vault.

I hope this makes sense. I guess maybe an easier question would be, Does the very first vault you start with have a name? As it stands mine is not showing any names. Is it just called the primary with no way to change that. Again, thanks a bunch for the help.

@fiveonomo - The very first vault you create does have a name, but when there is only one vault, it's name doesn't show at the top of the sidebar column. It is named Primary, and you have no control over that. As a new user, this is probably good enough until you get your feet under you with the application, but later, you may find you'd like to separate your data in some way. There is a provision to create a new vault for that purpose. The menu item for creating a new vault is under 1Password 5 in the Mac menu bar when 1Password has the focus. When you do create that new secondary vault, you will be given the option to give it any name you like.

When you create a secondary vault, then the name of the active vault will appear at the top of the sidebar, along with the option to change among the vaults.

ok, great. So i am correct that no name is showing up now. Can you tell me if i was asked at the very beginning to name my first/primary vault? I think I am understanding you and that it was just automatically named the primary. When I create another vault, say something like "Tim's Vault" my menu will say Primary and then under it Tim's vault. Am i on the right track?

You're welcome. The forum is a great way to get help when you get stuck, so don't hesitate to return if you have more questions.

(A hint would be to title your new threads in a way that helps readers know what the issue is, without opening it first.)
