Trouble with Password Generator and creating Logins

I am starting to use 1pswd and I am hitting a wall. The password generator is a little too complicated. Sure, I can read the dialog box and move the slider, check off the little boxes. What I find complicated is the idea of using 1pwd to upgrade my existing site passwords to new secure passwords as generated by the password generator.

I just locked myself out of my Comcast account. And I have accidentally made more than one account (in 1 pwd) for one bank already - Comcast wanted to duplicate Its self and I said (heck) NO! I am not really understanding this yet.

In Comcast, I Was already logged in. And I put in my then accurate password which It accepted. Then I moved to the new password field, and It's repeated new password field. I right clicked to allow 1pwd to generate a complex password .. Here is where It gets complicated.

I tried, hitting the copy button but that felt a little odd I mean, if I have the browser extension already in and I am right clicking from an active field on their site, should I need to copy and paste? I thought that was automatic? Whatever I did the first try It filled in the first field but not the second. Then I looked at the copy field and It appeared to be set to set to clipboard then paste. Then I Noticed that my Comcast account board in 1pwd was not changed which was even more confusing. Then at the end of It I got a dialog asking me if I Wanted to save my results to a new Comcast listing.

Why ...??!!! I did that before and now I have duplicate listings. There was a popup men that said I could create a new Comcast account or add to the existing one but, add to the existing one was greyed out so I really had the choice of saving or canceling. I canceled.

I need to understand better how this works and I will have to sit still until someone can please explain this better. It will be a headache to require Comcast but with enough time on the phone I am sure I will get there. I don't want to do that again though.

Sorry if this is common sense to others and I am just really dumb but, I am just not getting how this is supposed to work? If I generate a new password It seems to me 1pwd should then ask me, do you want to replace your password with the new generated password? Then on yes It should update the (Comcast or whatever) password and put the result on my clipboard. Then I can paste the new one in and make the site password changes manually by pasting to complete It. Sounds simple enough but I am missing what the developers were thinking when they designed this process.

Sigh...

@levelbest: I'm sorry to hear that you are struggling, but you've come to the right place!

First, the password generator is there to help you create long, strong, randomly-generated passwords for websites, but both 1Password and the site need to be on the same page for that to work.

Once you save a login in 1Password for a website, you can then use the 1Password extension in your web browser to fill it for you the next time you log in. After that, it's as easy as **⌘⌥** (Command+Option+Backslash) to bring up 1Password in your browser, where you can Go & Fill to login to the website.

The important thing to remember is that 1Password has a specific username and password saved. If you change your login credentials for the site, you will also need to update the 1Password login for the site so it has the correct information to fill in the future. And once again, when 1Password has the correct login information saved, **⌘⌥** will let you search and log in.

While in most cases 1Password will be able to automatically detect that you are using login credentials different than the ones it has saved and prompt you (as you mentioned), in some cases it will not be able to. But you can always save a login manually as well for use later.

I know it can be daunting to start out with something new, but we have a great guide to help you get more familiar with the way 1Password works. And, most of all, we're always here if you have any questions. I hope this helps! :)
