Folder Menu Layout 1Password Mini

There is an inconsistency in the way 1Password handles folder (the better way) and the way 1PasswordMini handles them (the not better way).

1PasswordMini adds one more hierarchical level to navigate through with the cascading menus that is a pain and takes up more lateral screen space as the mouse chases the levels.

It would be much better in my humble opinion if the 1PasswordMini presents the folder layout in a similar manner to 1Password so I can access the links quicker. There are a few folder groupings that make sense to me for quick access. Financial items are one when I need to get to bank accounts, etc.

I attached an image of the simple change that I envision that would not be a problem for the programming talent the AgileBits has. Please consider this minor change to allow me use the folders for maximum benefit.

    Hi @doctormo,

So you're looking for a permanently expanded list of all the folders at the same level as the main categories or you want to be able to click on the line Folders and have it expand below rather than to the side?

The one point I'd like to make is we probably can't be quite as adventurous here as we can with the layout in the main window. We'd have to work on the assumption that somebody might have a long list meaning we'd need the ability to scroll. Now the not as adventurous part comes because ideally you'd always want the search field, maybe even favourites and the password generator to always remain visible but that wouldn't be possible, at least not with my understanding anyway.

Let us know what you're thinking

Correct, I am looking for the expanded list of folders underneath the the main categories (static listing). I just copied the format from 1Password which allows you to get at each folder directly. Most of the time I am in Firefox and want to access various site groupings such as Financial, Shopping. Forums, etc and a separate line item for each folder would make this quicker than bouncing through menus that tend to go back and forth on the screen to fit.

I understand the part about someone having a long list of folders that would run down the screen but I personally do not envision that, just a couple of key folders with the logical stuff grouped. Of course, I have 165 items and some people have twice as many so it is possible I suppose that someone could put all their logins in folders and have 50 folders.

I actually have little reason to use some of the other items such as Passwords, Software Licenses, etc when in Firefox so it would be nice to contract this listing to gain space but I can see the programming limitations. I seem to have plenty of room on my computers to accept a number of Folder entries on the 1Password Mini listing so it seems easy to do. Maybe if there are too many it changes to a scrolling list like the others.

  • Hi @doctormo,

You make some great points here. We'll be sure to keep this in mind when we're designing things going forward. I think you're probably right that most users don't have that many folders, and even if they did we could truncate the list like we do for categories if needed.

Thanks for taking the time to write in. I love reading stuff like this. :)
