Second Vault: I WANT to be asked for password each time I access the vault

I have 1Password installed on my Mac, iPhone, iPad, etc. I have several secondary vaults currently that work great. I want to create a third secondary vault that will prompt me for the password to access the vault every time I access the vault. Is there any way to do this in 1Password?

TIA

You can open secondary vaults by themselves with their own passwords, but all secondary vaults available when you open the primary one with its own master password.

There have been other requests to be able to do what you want, and it's possible that might come in a future update. But the developers haven't promised that feature or indicated a timeline.

    Hi @aplnub,

As hawkmoth explained, this isn't currently possible in 1Password for Mac or iOS. Unlocking the Primary vault will unlock all of the secondary vaults on that computer/device. I'm sorry we don't have a better answer for you! This is a request we've heard from other customers though, so it's possible our developers may add this ability in the future (although I can't make any promises).

If you have more questions, please let us know. We're always happy to help!

I hope so. The case scenario here is someone else knows my 1Password and I want them to know it. That way if something happens they have access to my data and I trust them 100%. However, I want to share a vault with someone else that I don't want anyone having access to just by having my 1Password and if something happens to me, too bad. The vault on my end dies.

@aplnub - You could accomplish what you want if you put those data that you want to die with you in your primary vault. Then put the stuff you want to share in secondary vaults, each with its own password, which you would be free to share with whomever you like. The secondary vaults open on their own, without giving access to the primary vault. You would have access to all vaults with your main master password, but you wouldn't share it.

I know that's not what you asked for, but it would accomplish your goal as a functional matter. Your choice, of course.

  • Hi @aplnub,

I think @hawkmoth's answer is currently as close as we can get to what you're looking for. I hope that we can make this process easier for you in a future release.

    Rick
