"The system launched an incorrect version of 1Password mini."
I have a full bootable backup updated daily of my computer on another hard drive. Since your latest update, the system keeps trying to launch the version of 1 Password mini that's on my external hard drive. How do I resolve?

This is an OS X Yosemite problem. The OS has a nasty habit of wandering off and launching the wrong version of 1P mini. The best solution (assuming you need to leave your backup drive permanently connected to your Mac) is to:
- exclude the 1P app file from your backups; and
- delete any version of the 1P app file from your backup drive.
If the worst happens you can always re-download the app so you don't really need to back up the app file itself.

I use SuperDuper, and I have no idea how to exclude the file. I have the option to run a shell script, but I know nothing about shell scripts. And while I've had Yosemite since January, I only started having problems with this issue since your last update.

I believe SuperDuper will mount an unmounted (but not encrypted) drive in order to make a scheduled sync.
You could try that, unmounting the drive whenever you can after the sync has taken place.

Except the goal of SuperDuper is for it to execute scheduled backups every day without having to think about it. Therefore the drive is NOT unmounted. It is always mounted. It would be better if 1Password would fix the problem. It's not a Yosemite thing. It's a 1Password thing. It didn't happen until your latest big update which had a lot of features I'm not remotely interested in. It worked perfectly until then.

Does the error message mean anything/hurt anything by being there, or just ignore it?

I can possibly ignore it, although I don't know how 1Password opening the wrong file is affecting the base program. However, I did figure out how to add the script to backup instructions to exclude the 1PW app, so when that's done, we'll see how it works. Fingers crossed.

Just to add to what's been said:

I'm afraid it is a "Yosemite thing". If you wish to know more about that start with this AgileBits' post and follow the other links from it. @trixiesirish I don't doubt you didn't have problems before the latest upgrade but others did and I don't know why you were not affected.

You don't want to ignore the error message because there must be a risk, if the wrong version of 1P mini is started, that there will be a problem at some time with your 1P database.

@ I agree with you that SuperDuper should be completely automatic. But with scheduled backups there is no need to ever have the drive mounted.
By the way, I saw a note elsewhere that suggested to me that the problem might have been solved in the new OS 10.10.3.

The external drive is always available on the desktop. I don't have to remember to plug it in. Since it's the destination, SuperDuper will mount it as soon as it needs it, so SuperDuper can just do its thing every day. I was able to figure out how to exclude the 1Password app in the backup. After a restart, I was able to launch 1Password without the error message coming up. I tend not to ignore error messages. They're there for a reason, letting me know something is amiss. Updating to 10.10.3 now. Perhaps this update will fix an integration issue I was having with DesktopServer.

Great! Thanks for the update. Glad to hear that has resolved the problem.
