The program changes my password when I am editing a log-in panel. How do I stop it from doing that?

I have 1Password 5. It's set up with the three vertical panes. On the left, categories; in the middle the list of logins, etc. On the right, the editing pane. I am looking now at a login, e.g., "academia.edu". There's my user name and password. I click on edit in the lower right-hand corner. Beside the password is a round lozenge affair, a button of sorts. If i click on it the password becomes visible (which is what I wanted) but then the program CHANGES my password. I don't want that. The only way to prevent the app from doing this is to back out or cancel. But then I lose any other changes. And in some cases, my password has been changed without my knowing it. Problems. This is extremely irritating.

1Password has already become too complicated, too intricate. Now--in the desire to automate and to think for us--it does things for me I don't want and don't know how to stop. Such is the world of software. But is there any way to change this default behavior? I examined the preferences. I looked about.

What do you suggest?

What you are doing it clicking on the password generator button—so 1Password is obediently generating a new password for you.

What you should do is to click in the password field (not on that button). That will then disclose the existing password which you can then freely edit.

I think it's fair to say nobody wants their saved passwords altered without their consent @Alarik  I'm glad we were able to resolve this confusion
