(Yet another) Password Generator Request

As of v5.3.1, here is the password generator dialog (with pronounceable checked):

In my experience, this could be tuned to be a bit more in-line with the rules enforced by sites in general. For example, it's very common for sites to require at least 1 X where X is a digit, uppercase letter or symbol, often all 3. The generator as shown here makes symbols and digits mutually exclusive.

Additionally, I would like to see a few other changes:

  1. Make including digits and symbols checkboxes like mixed case.
  2. Make the generator recipe configurable per site. Obviously sites have different rules, and it would be nice for the generator to remember them. Perhaps a "Save recipe for site" checkbox?
  3. Allow the set of symbols to be configurable (again, per site). Some sites only allow small subsets of symbols
  4. The current generator puts the current choice into the password field automatically. A better UI would be to have save and cancel buttons. I know I have the chance to cancel the edit, but on numerous occasions I forget that, and panic because I think I've lost the previous password which is necessary for logging into a site to change it.

I know there are work arounds for many of these, but I think this would improve the product. Just my $0.02!

    Hi @robot1125,

Thank you for your feedback. Points 2. & 3. are something we want to see happen because working with the various restrictions can be a pain. I've started recording this kind of information in a Login's note field because it's so frustrating. Hopefully we can find an elegant way of doing so

Is it crazy to even consider 1Password incorporating a database of rules for various sites? IOW, whenever someone generates a password, 1pw could already match the site's rules. I know you always run the risk of the db being out of date, but it would be like virus signatures... better than nothing. Just an idea!

Also, not sure if you saw the recent post by Jeff Atwood, but it's relevant to all the good work you do at AgileBits.

I wouldn't say it's crazy at all @robot1125  While you do potentially run the risk of information changing you'd expect it to happen at a much slower rate than say viruses (those tricky little beggars). We'll have to wait to see what those inventive devs can come up with
