syncing both dropbox and wifi

I have a computer, ipad, and iphone that I sync 1p by dropbox. I have a computer at work where access to dropbox has been cut off. Can I sync my iphone (or ipad) by wifi sync with my work computer, then change a setting that will allow it to sync with dropbox? I understand the wifi sync is a "manual" process.

thanks!
Dave

  • Good morning, @DaveRo! Thanks for taking the time to write in. While I understand how frustrating it can be to run into a situation like this where your workplace blocks Dropbox, we really can't recommend using 1Password for iOS as a mule to get your data between work and home. Doing so greatly increases the chances that you are going to create synchronization conflicts within your 1Password items which, in the long run, can lead to instability within your vault.

After chatting with the rest of the team there are a few things you could try:

    1. Sign up for our new 1Password for Teams service and create a personal team that only you use. 1Password for Teams will keep all your information up to date on all your devices and your work computer seamlessly.
    2. Sync via iCloud (which currently requires 1Password for Mac from the App Store)
    3. Set up your home computer to sync your devices via Wi-Fi, but also set it up to sync to a Folder on a USB drive. You can then set up your work computer to also folder sync to that USB drive and use the drive as your "mule".

I hope this helps, but please let me know if there's anything else I can do.

Hi.. Thanks for the suggestions. I'll checkout the 1P for teams. Another thought... what if I created a separate vault with a subset of the current vault... thoughts?

  • Hi @DaveRo,

Unfortunately that would not help with this specific scenario as presently WiFi sync must sync the primary vault, in addition to allowing you to choose which secondary vaults to sync. Additionally manually managing a secondary vault like that sounds incredibly cumbersome to me...

    Thanks!

Thanks, Ben! I've signed up for 1p for teams. that may be a good fit for me!

  • Great! I hope it works out. If you have feedback about 1Password for Teams please feel free to drop us a line in our 1Password for Teams Beta forum.

Ok... I signed up. It sounds like I need to wait for an account key to be assigned to me, right? what's the usual lead time?

  • As we are currently in beta testing sign ups are being approved in batches. I do not have a current estimate on approval time, but we are continuously approving requests.

    Thanks!

Hi... A quick follow up from this post. It's been over a week since I signed up for 1password for team. I haven't heard anything. Is that unusual?

  • Hi @DaveRo ,

We do have a bit of a backlog getting new teams signed on to the 1Password For Teams beta. We're working as quickly as we can to get everyone approved.

    Cheers,
    Kevin
