ars technica & Wendy appleseed
All of a sudden my 1Password on my iPad has arstechnica and various sites with Wendy Appleseed as the password.. I deleted all but can't figure how to delete ars technica -- I don't even know what it is. It is not on my iPhone or, yet, my iMac. How do I prevent this happening again? Is deleting the duplicated, unwanted sites sufficient?!! Otherwise I haven't had a problem until now..

Those entries are for the Demo vault, which is there so you can show 1Password features to others without revealing your data. You can delete the demo vault by going to Settings > Vaults, picking the Demo vault, and then choosing the option to delete it. You're most likely seeing it now because there is a new feature to show all vaults, which is the default. (There is a request from other users to allow the user to decide which vault will be shown by default. I personally favor that, but I don't work for AgileBits.)
You can also switch to a specific vault by tapping the icon in the upper left and picking the vault you want displayed.

Thanks for jumping in here @hawkmoth. This is absolutely correct.
1Password for iOS version 6 added the All Vaults view which shows every single vault in your 1Password within one view. You might have added the Demo vault a long time ago and now with All Vaults it just gained more visibility.
You can either delete it in Settings > Vaults > Demo > Remove Vault or exclude it from All Vaults by unchecking it in Settings > Vaults > All Vaults.
