iOS new items not synced DropBox

have iOS 1Password 6.11 Pro on iPhone 6S Plus and iPad Air 2. Have 1Password for Mac 5.4.1 on MB Pro Retina.

At first I was seeing items created on Mac not syncing to iOS devices. I do sync via DropBox. After stop/restart on iOS that cleared up.

Now, new items created on either iOS device are not getting synched out.

I've gone through the troubleshooting steps in "Dropbox sync is not working".

help??

    Hi @MyDogHasFleas,

    Love the username

It seems you've been having a bit of a fight with Dropbox sync given your post.

The first thing I would be curious to is if you see any difference if on each iOS device you change to each vault, assuming you have more than one. We introduced a new view called All Vaults and we've got a bit of work to do in regards syncing when All Vaults is the view used. Assuming you have multiple vaults I believe switching to each vault should give sync a kick in the pants.

If that doesn't help or you only have a primary vault let's see if anything behaves if we reset with a brand new Agile Keychain.

    1. On your Mac launch 1Password and enter 1Password's preferences.
    2. Switch to the Sync tab and change the sync option from Dropbox to None.
    3. In the confirmation window that appears there will be a checkbox titled Delete data from Dropbox. Tick this both and click the Disable Sync button.
    4. Pause for a moment to let the deletion of the existing Agile Keychain complete.
    5. Change the sync option back to Dropbox and point 1Password to your Dropbox folder. The button should say Create New. If it says Merge Existing please stop as it would seem you have more than one Agile Keychain present and we will need to look into this.
    6. Assuming it says Create New go ahead and let 1Password create a new Agile Keychain and then pause to let Dropbox finish syncing the new Agile Keychain back to their servers.
    7. Both iOS devices should say that the Agile Keychain was removed and that they have disabled Dropbox sync. You should be able to use our Sync with Dropbox (iOS) to re-establish sync.

If you then create 3 test items, one on each device do they now sync? Please do keep us informed.

Welp, that was some scary berries. But all kind of seems OK now.

Removing and resyncing to DropBox on the Mac went fine.

When I re-established sync on the iPhone, it went on for like 5 minutes, and it almost seemed like the Mac and the iPhone were fighting each other. I suppressed my urge to cancel one or the other and just let them run. Finally DropBox stopped saying files updated and it seems like all the entries are synced.

I can also create and delete items on both sides and it syncs fine.

Have not tried the iPad yet, I don't actually use it that much.

One strange thing: on the iPhone, in settings, the Syncing wheel keeps spinning and the "transmitting data" spinny thing next to the WiFi indicator keeps going, indicating data is being sent/received. Not sure what's up with that.

And, yes, I have multiple vaults, I narrowed the "All Vaults" down to the one vault as part of my initial troubleshooting.

Follow up: I killed and restarted 1Password on the iPhone, and the continuous-sync behavior stopped.

  • Thanks for the update.

And, yes, I have multiple vaults, I narrowed the "All Vaults" down to the one vault as part of my initial troubleshooting.

That actually doesn't do the trick. You have to use the vault switcher (available at the top left hand corner of the Categories view) to switch away from the All Vaults view to the vault that you want to force to sync.

We do hope to have that fixed up soon so that vaults will sync correctly regardless of what view is displayed.

    Thanks.

    Ben

    OK I see that now.

As some UX feedback, I never guessed that that icon in the upper left corner of the Categories view is actually a vault picker. Some better visual indication would be good.

  • @MyDogHasFleas,

Thanks for the feedback. What would you suggest?

WOW - Just had the same problem and spent an hour trying to figure what happened. needed to get into my bank account, and data wasn't there, and I know I put it in my phone. unrelated to 1pass, but caused me great grief trying to pay a vendor before the holidays. Ended up spending 1-2 hours troubleshooting bank online services and now 1Password.

Turned out my Mac didn't have the entries, but my iPhone did. And BOTH said they were syncing fine.

!!!! This "ALL" vaults on IOS bug is ridiculous to not be solved by now (DEC 23) one month later.

Fortunately, it looks like the directions above helped. but now i am FREAKED OUT about being out of sync.. and will be spending time trying to figure out what device is most up to date.

    Hi @clarknet,

I'm so sorry this bug caused you such trouble! It's caused more than a few headaches for us as well, so we're not too happy about it either. However, the good news is that this has been fixed in a beta version - so, barring any unforeseen circumstances, the fix should be included in the next update (although I don't have a timeframe for when that will be available).

In the meantime, I do apologize for the inconvenience! If you have more questions about that or need anything else, please be sure to let us know. We're here for you! :)

Sorry for the raging post earlier, but I was really frustrated. I knew DropBox was syncing, and had a high expectation it could not be 1Password. The reality of the cloud is wonderful when all goes as planned, but getting more difficult to troubleshoot between user error and multiple vendors. All that being said.....

I really appreciate the follow up response!

Somehow, a bug like this should be reported to users, because I bet its a big one for many many users.

_And, by the way, I do love the product and recommend it often! _

Again, thanks for the response.... Merry Christmas!

  • Thanks for the feedback, and the kind words, @clarknet. We do try to point it out to folks by having it posted as an announcement in this forum, which is where all of our support links direct folks when contacting us.

We do appreciate the suggestion though, and will take that into consideration as we continue to try and find better ways to let folks know of potential issues.

    Merry Christmas. :)

    Ben
