Can I import 1Password 3.7.2 data from 1password.sqlite?

Hi,

Through a series of errors I have had to restore my iPhone 6 (on ios 9.1). Sadly iTunes now refuses to restore from any of my backup files (most recent was made with ios8, so it's probably a compatibility issue), and so I am having to restore personal info manually!

I was running 1Password 3.7.2 but am happy to upgrade to 4 or 5, but now the only place I have my old 3.7.2 passwords is in a stored folder called AppDomain-ws.agile.1PasswordPro which I have accessed and saved from an iTunes backup via an ios file explorer program.

So ideally I need to get any version of 1Password to import from that folder, or a way to convert the database into a format which 1Password will accept.

Any help would be very gratefully received!

Best wishes,
Steve

  • Hi Steve ( @Binky ),

Thanks for taking the time to write in. Yes, restoring from the SQLite file should be possible, though a little more complicated than traditional means.

Start by making a copy of the SQLite file somewhere convenient (e.x. the Desktop). Compress it by right clicking on it and selecting Compress "[file name]". Next, change the extension to .1pt4_zip (this can be done from the right click > Get Info menu).
Once you have a 1pt4_zip file place it in a folder called Backups and sync that folder to 1Password for iOS through iTunes File Sharing.

The last step happens on the iOS device and that is to go to Settings > Advanced and click Restore.

I hope that helps. Should you have any other questions or concerns, please feel free to ask.

Thanks Ben! However I haven't quite got it sorted yet.....

So; I deleted my old version 3.7.2 off iphone. Installed latest version from app store. Followed the steps above and synced using iTunes. But the 'restore' option in advanced settings is greyed out!

So I made a backup from the new version of the app and had a look at how that was formatted - extension was 1p4 not 1pt4, so I changed my old backup to that. However the restore option is still greyed out, so I guess the app isn't detecting a valid backup file.

If you can help further that would be great!

    All the best,
    Steve

  • Steve,

Did you put the backup file into a folder called Backups and then put that entire folder into iTunes?

  • Hi Steve,

Ah, yes, sorry about that. The instructions I gave you were for restoring a SQLite file made by 1Password 4 and above, so disregard everything I've said. For 1Password 3 for iOS SQLite files the instructions are a little different.

Please make a copy of the SQLite file somewhere convenient. We're not going to zip it this time. Instead we're going to change the extension to .1pt3import and then follow these instructions:

    https://support.1password.com/upgrade-ios/#1password-3-7-1-or-earlier

Starting with step #2 under Import your backup to 1Password 6

This causes 1Password 6 for iOS to treat the file as an import from 1Password 3 for iOS, instead of a backup. Please let me know if that works any better. Sorry for the confusion on my part -- we don't run into this sort of issue very often. :)
