Crash when open after iCloud restore
I recently got my phone swapped out due to a faulty camera. When restoring its contents from my iCloud backup 1password was reinstalled together with all my other apps, but when I start it, it crashes instantaneously. I have tried restoring again and to a different iCloud backup, as well as deleting the iOS settings, but I get the same behavior from 1password and a few other apps.
Have you guys ever seen this before? I've been talking to apple support but they didn't have any further troubleshooting for me other than what I've already tried (except "reinstall the app", which I can't do because I don't want to lose my vault, which is not backed up to the cloud...)
Many thanks for all and any help!! Getting my vault back is invaluable as I'm sure you understand.

@gbergin: Absolutely. That's a new one to me though, although iCloud/iTunes restores are often incomplete — however this is usually a data issue, rather than an app issue. That's why we have a built in backup/restore feature in 1Password. :(
Can you tell me a bit more about the specifics. It may provide a clue:
- What version of 1Password were you using previously?
- What type of iPhone was the old one?
- Which iPhone model do you have now?
- Just double-check, you're talking about a device backup and not syncing, correct?
- Do you have your 1Password data backed up or sync'd anywhere?
I have tried restoring again and to a different iCloud backup,
Please clarify what you mean by this. It sounds a bit scary.
as well as deleting the iOS settings, but I get the same behavior from 1password and a few other apps.
Likewise, what do you mean by 'deleting iOS settings'? Are you resetting them? If so, this will probably include app data, which would explain why you're having this issue with a number of apps.
Syncing the 1Password data back or restoring directly into 1Password would be ideal, since it's reliable. However, I will say that many people — myself included — have found that while an iCloud/iTunes restore may not work properly the first time (or even subsequent attempts), often simply starting over and restoring again will work properly. Don't ask me why. Maybe Apple doesn't even know. Please let me know what you find. I look forward to hearing back from you!

Hi! Thanks for the quick reply!
- The latest version :). I got the new one Tuesday and everything was updated then.
- They are both 64gb 6s
- See above
- Yes. The regular iCloud device backup which last time I switched hardware gave me my data back.
- No not anywhere other than iCloud device backup.
I "redeleted" the phone contents and restored to the Saturday rather than Sunday backup, just in case there was something wrong with that particular backup. Settings reset was something that apple support asked me to do to help them troubleshoot.
Let me know if you need any more information!

By the way, 1Password is not the only app crashing currently (after the iCloud restore). Facebook Messenger among others are having the same problem. But Apple Support directed me to support from app developers after hearing what kind of troubleshooting I had attempted. They had no more suggestions at the time...

@gbergin: I ask for the specific version number because often we'll find folks on "the latest version"...of 1Password 3, 4, or 5. Better safe than sorry!
Unfortunately it sounds like the best option you have in your situation that has any hope of restoring your data is attempting yet another iCloud restore. From your description, either the apps are damaged or their app containers are, and the only way to remedy that problem is by deleting them (which will also remove all of their data) and installing a fresh copy from the App Store...but of course that won't help get your data back. In which case, the iCloud backup is, presumably, the only remaining copy of your data from 1Password (and likely other apps as well).
I know there were a lot of reports initially when iOS 9 and the iPhone 6S were released, because restores were installing the wrong app binary (for a different device type) due to app slicing, but Apple reported that they had disabled it to eliminate the problem. However, that sounds like what you're experiencing, so I wonder if they've enabled it again with similar results.
If you'd sync'd or backed up your data, there might be a way for us to help you recover it. But again, if you don't have a vault backup or a copy of your 1Password data on another device, the only place it could possibly exist is in the iCloud backup, and only you and Apple have access to that. The best thing to do would be to try to restore, and they may be able to help if you continue having trouble with the iCloud restore process. I'm sorry I don't have better news for you, but hopefully you'll be successful.

Alright, I figured as much, especially since so many apps are having the same problem. I will try Apple support again and hopefully get access to one of the more technical support staff this time. Thanks a lot for taking the time to think about this! I will let you know what happens.

Indeed. I really wish I had a sure-fire solution for you, but I think that's the best course of action at this time. Please let me know how it goes!
