Generated passwords not saving?
Hi
I generate some passwords using the password generator but for some reason they don't seem to be saving to the password history location.
Does it only save them here in certain circumstances?
For me I changed a password on a website using the generator and then clicked the box that says update existing login to 1password. Thats all fine but I'm sure all passwords generated used to get saved in case the option such as update existing login never showed up, in that scenario we would copy and paste and edit our own logins.
thanks

Hi telUK,
If you are using the password generator in 1Password mini (in the system toolbar or browser), every time you generate a new password, a new password entry should be saved in the 'Passwords' category. With 1Password 6, these passwords are saved to your 'Vault for Saving', which may not be the vault you have currently selected. You can change this destination vault in the All Vaults preferences.
When you later update a login and use that generated password, the update mechanism "cleans up" your generated password records, removing the entry. The reasoning is that now the password is saved as a full-fledged Login item and you don't want to have a duplicate record in the Passwords category.
I hope that answers your question. Let me know.

Hi
I only use the one vault which is my primary vault. As for the last bit, Im not sure I understand, are you saying that if I generate a password and update a login that password will not be saved in the passwords folder records?
Is this a new feature in 1p6?
In 1p5 no matter when I generated a password it would be stored in the password history.
thanks

The items in the 'Passwords' category are cleaned up when you use the in-browser save dialog to update a Login. However, if you change the password directly on a login through its detail view, the Login itself maintains a 'Previously Used Passwords' section, and this section is not cleaned.
This behavior goes back to 1Password 5, if not earlier.
The idea is this:
1. You are at a signup page in the browser
2. You use the strong password generator to create and fill a new password
3. >>At this point a new Password item will be created in the Passwords category <<
4. You complete the signup page, and 1Password presents a Save Login dialog
5. You use the Save dialog to save a new or update an existing Login
6. The Password item created in step 3 will be removed, since the password is tied to the Login item0 -
hi
Thanks for the detailed answer.
