Trouble auto-filling after reinstalling Safari browser extension
I recently upgraded to 1password 6.0.2 from the Agilebits Store. The browser extension was not recognizing websites so it wouldn't pull up the correct password. I have to manually search for the name of the website in order to fill it in. I found this post and reinstalled the extension with version 4.5.3. and also confirmed that "Automatically submit logins after filling" is checked. It is still not auto-filling.
I noticed that it did autofill for this AgileBits forum. But my others are still not working. Any ideas guys?

Hi, @jamesb303. Sorry for the trouble you're having! (I moved this thread to our Saving and Filling in Browsers forum so that if others are having similar issues they might be able to find it easier.) I do most of my work on the browser extension and form filling, so I'm especially keen to help sort out your issue. :)
When you say "autofill", I want to make sure we're speaking the same language. Some password managers (including Safari's built-in password saving and filling) fill your information into the page as soon as you load the page, without you doing anything. 1Password works differently and only fills your information when you have specifically asked for it. (This was actually a feather in our cap during a recent security analysis of popular password managers.) This request might come in a few different ways, but we never fill your data without your explicit instruction. This is why I'm a pretty big stickler, especially with our team, about avoiding the word "autofill" because it has such different connotations that we don't want to imply for 1Password.
If we're speaking the same language and you mean 1Password isn't filling when you request it, then I'd be curious to know a few different things.
- When the AgileBits forum filled, how did you invoke this? Were the fields white or yellow after the filling? (Yellow fields are the result of Safari's built-in autofill and not 1Password.)
- How are you requesting 1Password to fill? Do you navigate to the login page and then choose the site from the 1Password extension? Double click the item in the main 1Password application? Search in 1Password mini?
- Does 1Password filling work on any other sites? If you're having problems with specific sites, I'd love to have the links so we can investigate further.
Sorry for all the questions, but I want to make sure I understand the situation properly in order to give the best guidance for getting 1Password working for you like it should. :)
Thanks!

Thanks for the reply and the clarification on the auto-fill.
When I log into Agile bits, the fields are white.
When I refer to auto-fill I mean that I navigate to a login page the click on the 1Password extension icon. When the popup window appears, my login info usually appears just under the search field. Currently it is not showing up so I have to key in a search for the login for each site. Then I click it and it
- I'm not sure what you want me to test here. I tried to login with a fake email and new password and 1Password prompted me to save the login info, but then I got an error that the email wasn't in the database. Either way, it's some but not all of the other logins that are not working. Any idea why it's inconsistent and how to reestablish the connection?

Hi @jamesb303,
At least in my mind, if it's some but not all then that sounds promising, we just need to figure out why some aren't.
The first thing I would be curious to learn is similar to what Jamie was asking in his third question but with a slight twist. Picking a site that is currently experiencing this problem, can you create a brand new item using our How to manually save a Login guide please. So now you should have the older item that 1Password isn't matching to and showing in 1Password mini and a new item.
- Does the new item show when it should do and does it properly fill?
- How do the website fields of the new and old item compare? What I'm curious about is the fully qualified domain name and protocol, so everything from the start of the URL to what they call the TLD or top level domain. I'll use Amazon as an example here, their main page is
http://www.amazon.co.uk
but it could be also stored just aswww.amazon.co.uk
and this is different from their login page which ishttps://www.amazon.co.uk
. Amazon exist in multiple countries so they also havewww.amazon.com
,www.amazon.ca
etc. Does this important piece of each item seem to be the same? - If you edit the old Login item you will see two options appear, one of which is titled display. What is the display option set to on the old item?
Hopefully that makes sense, if it doesn't please do say and I'll rephrase.

The autofill in safari is not working. all is up to date. it's always worked like a charm and after your newest update 1Password 6
Version 6.0.2 (602004) auto fill is not working.0 -
@Craig13 Sorry you're having issues here. I have heard from a few users recently that after the update to 1Password 6, a restart of their Mac was needed in order to get 1Password and Safari properly talking again.
If that doesn't help, could you answer the same questions that @littlebobbytables and I asked in our two posts above?
Let us know and we'll do all we can to help. :)
