1Password on my iPhone has disappeared.
My info: Just upgraded to 1Password 6.0.1 and updated my extension. My browser is Firefox 44.0.2. My iPhone iOS is 9.1.
My iPhone 1Password disappeared when I upgraded to iPhone 6. All my other apps made the journey safely but 1Password went AWOL. And as I remember it, even on my iPhone 5, 1Password was no longer syncing with my desktop Mac which runs Yosemite 10.10.3 — meaning changes to passwords or adding new ones or deleting old ones were no longer being recorded to my phone app when I would sync. I am happy to purchase the iPhone app again.
I think I remember back when I was first using 1Password, I talked to a technical support person from Agile and they were able to really help me. This is very useful for those of us who are not so computer literate. Is that still possible. Or at least to have an online chat.
Also, I don't know why but the drop-down 1Password menu in my new upgrade (6.0.1) does not look like the one on the Agile website. It has no Check for Updates or License option.
Can someone help me with all of this? I love your product. IN fact, I can longer survive on my computer without it. I have dozens of complicated passwords to dozens of websites, some of them sensitive (credit cards, bank accts) and I change passwords every few months. Without your software this would be impossible. It really is a wonderful product.
1Password Version: 5.3
Extension Version: i don't know
OS Version: 10.10.3
Sync Type: I am not on the cloud.
Referrer: forum-search:I upgraded to Firefox 44.0.2 and now my 1Password browser icon has disappeared. Help.

Good afternoon @turtlethom. Thanks for taking the time to write in! I'm sorry to hear that you had some trouble making the transition to your new iPhone 6 with regards to 1Password. The good news is that you won't have to purchase 1Password again.
We will also get your phone syncing to your Mac so that all of your information is kept up to date between your two devices. In fact, let's start on your Mac as it will make setting up 1Password on your phone easier.
Before we get started, can you tell me if you downloaded 1Password from the App Store app on your computer or from the AgileBits website? An easy way to tell which one you're using is to launch 1Password and then look at the name shown in the menu bar in the upper left corner of the screen. If it says “1Password 6” then you’re using the version from our website. If it says just “1Password” then you’re using the App Store version.
Let me know which one and we’ll start getting squared away.

Mr. Rooni — So thankful for your reply and confident good cheer. I have to attend a screening tonight but will devote my attention to this tomorrow. In the meanwhile, I found the email receipt for the version 5.1 which I bought almost exactly a year ago from the iTunes store and yes, it just says 1Password on the menu bar. I upgraded that version today to 6.0.1. Once again, thanks. I look forward to getting this working again.

Great, thanks for the additional information, @turtlethom.
The App Store version of 1Password does not have License or Check for Updates menu options because those functions are handled by the App Store itself. They happen outside of 1Password.
If you have not already you can install 1Password on your iPhone from the iTunes App Store:
1Password on the iTunes App Store
Once you have that installed you can set up syncing with your Mac:
Sync | 1Password for Mac
Sync | 1Password for iOS
That should get you squared aware, having your data on both the Mac and iPhone.
Please let us know how it turns out!

Mr. Woodruff,
As I explained to Mr. Rooni, not everyone is computer literate so just sending me to a page and telling me I can install something or other is not that helpful. The page in iTunes is actually quite confusing. And although I don't mind actually purchasing the iPhone app again (my original app seems to have disappeared in my switch to iPhone 6), Mr. Rooni assured me I would not have to do that.
It would be great if you could go slower and treat me as if I were doing all this for the first time. I remember some years ago, when I first got 1Password, I spoke to an actual human who was able to help me install and sync, etc. Is that still possible?

Mr. Rooni,
As I have 1Password 6.0.1 and I do not use the Cloud, I will have to use Dropbox to sync. That is alright — I do have Dropbox but it is a small mystery how it works. I only know when I first set it all up with help from someone at AgileBits, it worked quite well for a good period of time before something went wrong.

Mr. Rooni — should I use my iPhone to repurchase the iPhone 1Password app and will it automatically sync like my other apps?

Or should I buy the iPhone app directly from AgileBits and does it matter?

And which of the many 1Password iPhone apps should I get? I do apologize for being less than competent in these matters. I am a really good cook.

Mr. Woodruff,
Please feel free to refer to me as Ben. :)
As I explained to Mr. Rooni, not everyone is computer literate so just sending me to a page and telling me I can install something or other is not that helpful.
I understand.
The page in iTunes is actually quite confusing.
Which page? This one?
1Password 6 for iOS on the iTunes App Store
This is the same page you'll run across for installing any iOS app. If you have downloaded 1Password for iOS (either v4, v5, or v6) in the past you'll see a "cloud download" button, which you can tap on to install 1Password on your device:
If 1Password for iOS is already installed on your device you'll instead see an "open" button, which will launch 1Password for iOS for you:
The last possibility is that if you have never installed 1Password for iOS (v4, v5, or v6) using the Apple ID you are currently logged into you'll see a "free" button in that spot. 1Password 6 for iOS is a free app. You can tap the free button to "purchase" 1Password for iOS (for free) and download it to your device.
And although I don't mind actually purchasing the iPhone app again (my original app seems to have disappeared in my switch to iPhone 6), Mr. Rooni assured me I would not have to do that.
It is possible that you had previously purchased 1Password 3 for iOS ("1Password Pro"). This product is no longer sold, and 1Password 4 for iOS and later are considered separate products. The current release, 1Password 6 for iOS, is a free product. We do offer an in-app purchase for "Pro features" (you can read about Pro features by clicking here), but no purchase is necessary to sync your data. For now I'd suggest we focus on getting the basic app set up and syncing and then once we've accomplished that we can talk more about the Pro features if you wish.
It would be great if you could go slower and treat me as if I were doing all this for the first time.
I'll do my best, but it would help me help you if when you have trouble with an instruction I've pointed to if you could please specify what, exactly, you're having difficulty with.
I remember some years ago, when I first got 1Password, I spoke to an actual human who was able to help me install and sync, etc. Is that still possible?
Last I checked I was an actual human. :) All joking aside -- we're still a relatively small company, and we don't have a call center. We can't accept inbound phone calls for customer service. That said, if we are not able to resolve your problem here we can discuss other options.
Great! Dropbox is still a great option.
When you first install and then launch 1Password 6 for iOS you'll be prompted with a screen that asks if you are a new or existing user. Because you have existing data on your Mac that you want to sync you will want to choose existing user:
Existing 1Password user | 1Password for iOS
From there you'll want to pick the option to sync with Dropbox. You can find instructions for syncing with Dropbox here:
Sync with Dropbox | 1Password 6 for Mac
Sync with Dropbox | 1Password for iOS
Please read each of these guides through thoroughly and carefully. If these instructions are overwhelming please let me know exactly where you're running into trouble (which instruction/statement in which guide) and we'll be happy to try and better explain.
Mr. Rooni — should I use my iPhone to repurchase the iPhone 1Password app and will it automatically sync like my other apps?
As I mentioned above the basic 1Password for iOS app is free. It will not sync by default. You'll need to enable syncing by following the instructions in the guides I've linked above.
Or should I buy the iPhone app directly from AgileBits and does it matter?
That is not possible. All iOS apps, including 1Password for iOS, are available exclusively from Apple in the iTunes App Store. App developers, such as AgileBits, are not allowed to offer iOS apps directly (except under some very specific circumstances which do not apply to 1Password).
The Mac application is available both from AgileBits and Apple, but it sounds like you're already all set with the purchase of the Mac application, so lets not further complicate the issue by going down that rabbit hole. :)
And which of the many 1Password iPhone apps should I get? I do apologize for being less than competent in these matters. I am a really good cook.
There is only one 1Password for iOS app currently available, and it is the one available here:
1Password 6 for iOS on the iTunes App Store
I hope that helps! :) If any of this is unclear please let us know where you run into trouble and we'll be happy to elaborate.

Well, Ben. I should make dinner for you one night. As I remarked, I am really good in the kitchen. Also at my regular job writing music for television. But although I use them all day, computers still mystify me outside of my own very narrow niche.
I thank you for your help and directions, which after a couple of wrong turns on my part, were quite clear and I think got me where I need to be. At least my 1Password iOS app is on my phone and seems to be up to date.
A couple of questions which probably should be clear to me but, sadly, are not:
When I sync my phone to my computer from here on — will any changes I have made on my desktop 1Password application automatically be recorded in my 1Password iOS app. And does that work vice versa.
Also, it seems AgileBits did away with the preliminary Password and now just asks for the master password. Is that correct? (I know that sounds like it should be obvious and it is but I am just making sure that is how it is supposed to be).
If I change the 1Password "master password" on my desktop, which I do periodically, will the new password automatically work in the iOS app on my phone?
I have some logins that are just greyed-out keys and others that have recognizable icons. Why?
And once again, Ben — thanks for getting me back on track. Outside of music and editing software which is my bread and butter, there is no application more important in my life than 1Password. That is just a fact.

One last thing (for the moment, anyway). I have logins for every site I use. It seems every time I create a login, I get a duplicate password only entry. The result is that I have literally hundreds of Password only duplicates. Do I need them? And if not, how do I keep the, from getting made in the first place?
Thanks in advance.

Aww, thanks for the kind words!
1Password for iOS will sync when it is launched and whenever you make a change within it. 1Password for Mac will sync when it is launched, or whenever a change is made on any device that is synced to Dropbox. So, for most practical purposes, "yes," both devices will sync automatically and should appear as though they were working from the same data source.
As for the Master Password prompt... you have an option in this regard. You can enable Touch ID, if your device is Touch ID enabled, or a PIN code if it is not. You can read more about this here:
Use Touch ID | 1Password for iOS
We do not recommend periodically changing your Master Password simply for the same of doing so:
AgileBits Blog | Toward Better Master Passwords
(See the section titled "Change a weak master password, otherwise leave it be" in particular, which in short is our recommendation)
But to answer your question, changing your Master Password on one device should change the Master Password for all of your other synced devices. Note that the first time you unlock a device after making the change you may need to use the old Master Password (so that a sync can occur). After that you should use the new Master Password.
If a login has a generic icon it is because we do not have a better one on file for that website. We're working to add more icons but this is still a fairly manual process for us and is not the highest priority item on the to-do list, so they are being added at a fairly slow rate.
As for having both a password item and a login item... This is because 1Password keeps a historical record of all of the passwords it generates (so long as you either copy them to the clipboard, save them to a login item, or fill them into a web page). This is intended to be a bit of a backup. If somehow the process of saving the login goes awry at least you have the generated password recorded. These can be deleted, if you wish, but there isn't a setting to prevent them from being created.
Thanks!
Ben
