master password stopped working after latest update.

I have been using the same master password a number of times a day for 6-7 months. I also have it written down. For these two reasons, I'm confident I am know what it is. In addition to trying to enter it as I normally do (with the keyboard), I've entered it into "My Notes" and then cut and pasted it into 1Passowrd, however, it is not being accepted.
This all started after recently updating to the latest version of 1Password.
I have not updated or changed my master password.
I did try to "Restore from a 1Password backup" and believe my setting were reverted to those from yesterday, before I was having trouble.
Can you tell me if there is any way the update could be causing my problems? Is there any way to determine whether or not my pw was unintentionally changed?

  • Hi @John_Roach ,

I'm sorry you're having trouble unlocking 1Password. I'll do my best to help you out. The restore should have worked if the master password was changed since then, so I wonder if there's something else affecting the input rather than the unlock failing.

    1. Does it freeze up or explicitly tell you it is incorrect?
    2. When you mistype it a few times, the hint should popup - is this the hint that normally matches your Master Password?
    3. Did it stop working exactly after you installed the update or were you able to get in and then later on it stopped working?
    4. Do you sync your data with other devices? Does you Master Password work on those devices?
    5. And I know this is a silly question, but I want to make sure: have you checked your caps lock key is on?

With the answers to those questions, we should be able to proceed further.

Another thing you can try is to try a restore going back further, e.g. a week ago. Restore to that, restart your Mac, and try it again.

    Thanks,
    Kevin

Mine did the same thing. I updated to 6.1. The Master Password works on my iPhone and my iPad. I have not changed the Master Password and I used it within the last couple days and everything was working just fine.

  • @lindawebb3435 Sorry about that. How are you syncing your data between your devices? It would also be very helpful if you could answer Kevin's five questions above in this thread. :)

I have the same problem after installing 1Password 6 on my MacBookPro. Answers to the questions: 1 shakes saying invalid password 2 same reminder 3 first time trying to access on Mac 4 doesn't work on iPhone, can access it on iPad with touch id 5yes caps lock is off.

  • Hi @John_Roach, @lindawebb3435, and @TomSinger1,

I have two options for you. I would love to take the time to investigate this with you to figure out what on earth is going on here, but I understand that you might not be willing to not have access to your data for very long.

Option 1: Let's figure out what's going on

If you're open to working with us to determine what's going on, I would love for you to create a Diagnostics Report and email it to support+forums@agilebits.com. Include a link to this forum thread so that we understand where this is coming from. The diagnostics report will include some log files that will paint a bit of picture of what's going on. We can hopefully use that information to piece together what might have happened here.

Option 2: Let's get you up and running again.

If you just want to get up and running again, then let's do that. This is really simple if you're syncing with another device. All you need to do is to follow our Starting Over guide, then launch 1Password again and point it to how you're syncing and you should be good to go.

If you're not syncing with anything, then let us know and we can help you get going with one of the backups that gets created automatically.

    Rick
