login category; website field; change 'open and fill' to just 'open'?
Is it possible to change a 'website' field in a 'login' category to 'open' instead of 'open and fill'? The 'Membership' category has a 'website' field that is 'open' only. Doesn't appear to be a way to migrate a 'login' to a 'membership' short of copy/paste.
Better yet, is there a way to delete all the elements/fields in the 'web form details' section of a 'login' category w/o deleting the real 'username' and 'password' fields at the top of the 'login' category? i.e. neuter 'open and fill' with no data to fill with, but i can still manually copy/paste the username/password data as I need.
Is there a way to specify what browser an 'open' or 'open and fill' button uses on a per record basis? ipmi login for 'a' works with 'Chrome' and 'Opera'; ipmi login for 'b' works with 'FireFox' only; e-commerce site 'x' works best in 'Safari'; and my bank works best in 'Opera'.

Hi @nullroute,
Thanks for writing in with your questions!
Is it possible to change a 'website' field in a 'login' category to 'open' instead of 'open and fill'?
No, there's no option to change which one is shown by default. I can let our developers know you'd like to be able to change that, although I can't make any promises about whether or not that will be possible in a future version.
The 'Membership' category has a 'website' field that is 'open' only.
Yes, and that's because Membership items don't have the ability to be used to fill web forms. There are three 'special' item categories in 1Password which can fill web forms: Logins, Identities, and Credit Cards. Other categories are basically templates made to store different types of information which isn't commonly used to fill forms on websites. If you have an account on a website and want 1Password to be able to fill your username & password on that site, you'll need to create a Login item for that.
Doesn't appear to be a way to migrate a 'login' to a 'membership' short of copy/paste.
It's not currently possible to move an item from one category to another, so you would need to copy and paste the data into a new item in the new category. In case it helps, we have some tips for how to make that process a bit easier in this blog article: Quick Tip: Migrate your details between 1Password items

Because Login items were designed to fill the username & password fields of sign-in forms on websites, the username & password fields shown at the top of a Login item are very closely tied to the web form details. You can't delete one without deleting the other. But I'm not sure I understand why you would want to do that - is there a reason why you don't want 1Password to be able to fill those for you on a website? That's much easier than copying & pasting them, although you can still use copy & paste for that if you want to (just click on the username or password field in 1Password to copy it).
Is there a way to specify what browser an 'open' or 'open and fill' button uses on a per record basis?
When you use the 'open and fill' feature in 1Password, it opens the website in whichever browser you have set as your default browser in OS X. 1Password doesn't have an option to choose a different browser per Login item, but you can open a browser and choose a Login item from the 1Password extension to open it there (when doing that, just find the Login item and select it - don't click on the URL from the item details or it will launch that in your default browser).
Hopefully that answers your questions, but please let us know if you need anything else. We're always happy to help! :)

1P has difficulty working with older 'sites' ( e.g. poor html, embedded web servers, older IPMI implementations, et al. ) it's not worth the time/money for 1P to support these 'rare' devices.
Just looking for a category where there's username/password fields with copy options and N 'links' with open on each - no autofill magic. no 'section' headings with a copy button.

Hi @nullroute,
Our goto for cases like this is Secure Notes because they don't have any special fields at all, and it's all custom. Here's an example I used where I created a Credentials section with a username field and a password (concealed) field. And a URLs section with a list of URLs. By setting the field type to URL, they get the 'Open' button.
Another option would be to use Login, but not use the website fields provided within Login, and instead create a custom section with URL fields.
Neither of these qualify for you "no 'section' headings with a copy button" unfortunately.
I hope this helps.
Rick
