Master password mismatch

I changed my master password on PC a few days ago, and the new password works on ios however my macbook version is still using the old password. I use dropbox to sync my 1password and it has synced up a few times but is annoyingly still using the old master password. Why on earth? (puzzled)

1Password Version: 6.1
Extension Version: Not Provided
OS Version: 10.11.2

What should be happening on the Macbook is that the old password continues to work until the first time you use the new one. After that only the new one works.

The reason is that the macbook can't know about the new password until it has synced, and it can't sync until it has been unlocked, which therefore needs the old password.

Perhaps you just haven't tried the new password yet.

    Hi @Pixelwarrior,

So danco is correct about how changes to the Master Password are pushed from one location to another. Each copy of 1Password has to be unlocked once after the Master Password change so that it can synchronise with the sync container in Dropbox. After that the new Master Password should be usable everywhere.

Can I just confirm, if you add a test item either on Windows or your iOS device does the MacBook see it? What this will do is just confirm there isn't a more general sync issue with the Mac that might be the cause. If that doesn't explain anything we'll look into this further and maybe ask you for a diagnostic report to see if it highlights anything. One way or another I'm sure we can help you force the MacBook to be using the same Master Password as the other devices.

Hi there thanks for your reply. Yes I have used the new master password on both my PC and on my ios but still today it is requiring the old password on my macbook. The general sync might be an issue because I added a new secure note on my PC but it has not showed up on my macbook. How do I fix the sync issue?

@Pixelwarrior: Indeed, follow that guide as it will help narrow down the cause. Please let us know what you find! :)

Thank you. It seems my MacBook was no longer syncing with Dropbox. I set it to the same folder, it asked for my new password and merged the data. The new data has now appeared in my MacBook version. I don't know why it stopped checking my Dropbox but at least it's fixed now, thanks again for all your help.
