I have two Mac partitions on my SSD and 1Password 6.2 from your store is installed on both partitions as I needed it to work with the two partitions, each time I upgrade I got the warning you have several copies installed I read your knowledge base articles, how to find and remove, but I don't want to remove it,
How to avoid interferences keep the good functioning of both copies and not to have the constant warning when downloading updating the beta versions,
Thanks,
ojro

  • Hi @ojro ,

The warning you see is a precautionary measure. The issue is that in order for 1Password to launch 1Password mini (the "mini" app that stores and secures your data, and communicates with the web browser extensions), it has to tell OS X to do it. To do this it can only tell OS X the id of the app, and not where it is located. There is no mechanism to say "launch this copy of 1Password mini, not that one". It can only say "launch 1Password mini, please".

The problem happens when OS X finds the wrong copy and launches it, and the two copies are of two different versions. 1Password 6.0 can't communicate with 1Password 6.1 (for example) so problems arise. This is why we advise to keep only one copy of 1Password on your system.

So, in your case, I recommend un-mounting your other partition when updating 1Password, and after it relaunches, you can mount your other partition again.

The other option is to ignore the warning and click "Update Anyway". This may work for you, but if you see "wrong version" errors, then you'll know what the cause is.

We continue to look for ways around this, as we don't like that solution either. But for now, the above recommendation is best.

    Cheers,
    Kevin
