Can't figure out how to sync

I just downloaded the free trial for Mac and the Android app for my phone. I'm trying to get the data to sync through Dropbox, but I can't even open the "main app." When I go to apps and double click on the 1password app it opens the window that has all items, favorites, etc in the left sidebar. It's the thing that is shown in this help window (https://support.1password.com/guides/mac/1password-main-app.html) as a picture of the main app, but I apparently I need the thing that has Preferences as a menu option, as shown here (https://support.1password.com/guides/mac/sync-dropbox.html). How do I find this thing? Every way I try to open it, I keep getting the wrong thing.

Hi @Wendi,

When you launch 1Password, you will get the main window (as shown in the first link you posted), but you should see the menu bar at the top of the screen. Then click 1Password at the left side of the menu bar. (It's just to the right of the Apple logo menu). Preferences is the third item in the list.

I've attached a screenshot to show you where.

When you click on Preferences… a new Preferences window will appear, and you will see one of the icons is labelled Sync.

If you don't see a menubar at the top of the screen, you are in what's called "full screen mode" where the menu bar is hidden. To get out of full screen mode, push your mouse to the very top of the screen until the menu bar drops down. When it does, you'll see red, yellow, and green buttons in the upper left corner of the 1Password window. Click the green button. Then the menu bar will always be visible, and you can repeat the instructions above.
