Changes to secondary vaults on iOS device don't sync back to Dropbox

Hello 1Password team! I've run into a reproducible Dropbox syncing problem with 1Password on iOS.

I have one primary vault and multiple secondary vaults on my iOS device. All vaults are synced using Dropbox.

When I make an change to an item in, or add a new item to, a secondary vault on my iOS device, it does not sync the changes to Dropbox. I can see this because the Dropbox icon on the Mac Dropbox icon on the toolbar does not show the rotating sync arrows, does not show a popup notification about data having changed, and does not show any of the vault's band files in the "recently changed" list after I make these changes. In addition, unsurprisingly, the data does not get updated in the target Mac 1Password vault.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Create a secondary vault on Mac [I'll call it Foo Vault].
2. Sync Foo Vault via Dropbox.
3. Add Foo Vault as a secondary vault on an iOS device.
4. Create/edit/delete an item in Foo Vault on the Mac. Note that the change does propagate to the iOS device.
5. Create/edit/delete an item in Foo Vault on the iOS device. Note that the change does not propagate to the Mac (or other devices). There are a few ways to do this that still trigger the same result:
The issue occurs if:
[a] I create the item in another vault [let's call it Bar Vault] on another Mac, sync it to Bar Vault (another secondary vault) on my iOS device, and then attempt to Move/Copy it to Foo Vault on the same iOS device.
[b] I create the item in my Primary vault on my iOS device and then attempt to Move/Copy it to Foo Vault on the same iOS device.
[c] Edit an existing item in Foo Vault on my iOS device.

Hopefully it's clear above, but to reiterate: changes made to items in Foo Vault on a Mac do sync to Foo Vault on the iOS device. The problem is that changes made on the iOS device to Foo Vault (again, a secondary vault from the perspective of the iOS device) do not propagate to Dropbox and therefore don't propagate to the Mac (or other iOS devices that have the same vault).

I've reviewed the known issues on the forums and can't find anything that quite matches the problem I'm experiencing. To me, it seems like an integration problem with uploading secondary vault changes to Dropbox on iOS.

Do you have any ideas about what this could be?

Thanks so much!

  • Hi @brebre,

Thanks for taking the time to write in! I'm sorry to hear about the trouble syncing. Thank you so much for detailing this all out for us. One point that I wanted to clarify: changes you make to the Primary vault on the iOS device do sync to the Mac? Is that correct?

    Please let me know.

    Ben

Hey Ben! Thanks for the quick reply.

Right. Changes to the primary vault on my iOS device do properly sync to Dropbox (and therefore the Mac).

  • Interesting. :)

I'd like to ask you to create some Diagnostics Reports, one from each of your devices:

Attach the Diagnostics Report(s) to an email message addressed to support+forum@agilebits.com.

Please do not post your Diagnostics Report(s) in the forums, but please do include a link to this thread in your email, along with your forum handle so that we can "connect the dots" when we see your Diagnostics Report(s) in our inbox.

You should receive an automated reply from our BitBot assistant with a Support ID number. Please post that number here so we can track down the report(s) and ensure that this issue is dealt with quickly. :)

Once we see the report we should be able to better assist you. Thanks very much!

    Ben

As Murphy's law would have it, I can't reproduce the problem anymore! That is super bizarre. So for now, I'll retract my post. But if it recurs, I'll let you all know! :)

    Thank you, Ben!
