Storing vaults on iCloud vs 1Password.com
Hi guys,
First of all, I want to support AgileBits (I love you guys) and I have absolutely no problem buying a subscription to support the business model. However, when it comes to using the syncing with the subscription, I'm a little less sure. Up until now, I've been using iCloud, and I've been largely happy with it. But I'm redoing my computing setup right now, and I don't want to setup iCloud and then have to backtrack, so I'm trying to do some investigation into which syncing method is ideal for my use case.
Unfortunately, despite digging through the docs (including your encryption whitepaper, which was really great), I've had difficulty identifying the a concrete set of differences in functionality and security between 1Password.com and iCloud. Can you speak to some of the pros and cons between the two?
Thank you,
Neil.

Hi @kneil250 - Thanks for getting in touch. That's a good question, I think!
On the surface, sync is just sync and I understand that you will find it difficult to find differences as far as 'getting your stuff on all your devices' goes. Both solutions do that well (although anecdotally I found our sync to be quicker almost all of the times I cared to look into such things). 1Password.com sync doesn't require any specific setup steps, you just sign in and it works. For iCloud, the setup is a bit more on the technical side of things.
From a security standpoint the biggest difference is that your device is secured by two factors on 1Password.com: Your Master Password (which also protects your data on iCloud) and your Account Key. The Account Key strengthens the Master Password exponentially. This is a unique feature with 1Password.com memberships and sets it a part from other sync methods we support.
I hope this information helps. Please let me know if you need anything else. I’ll be happy to help! :)

Hi Roman,
Thanks for getting back to me. So does 1Password.com also have the same single vault limitation as iCloud? Also, 1Password.com seems to have limitations on attachment sizes, whereas iCloud seems to have no such documented limitations; how do they compare in that department? Also, are attachments secured differently from keychain items in 1Password.com?
Thanks,

No, it doesn't. You can create additional vaults if you need them. No problem at all.
Also, 1Password.com seems to have limitations on attachment sizes, whereas iCloud seems to have no such documented limitations;
For local vaults the limit is 5mb (iCloud vaults count as local vaults). For vaults on 1password.com the limit is 50mb.
Also, are attachments secured differently from keychain items in 1Password.com?
No, they're both secured the same way.

Sorry, another unrelated question: am I better off installing the browser extensions through the browser stores (ie. the Safari Extension Store) or through your website?

Hi @kneil250 - Great question! I would recommend installing our browser extensions from here - https://agilebits.com/onepassword/extensions
I hope this helps. Let us know if you have any additional questions :-)
