Hi, I'm no longer able to log into 1Password through the Chrome extension or iPhone app. I think it happened after one of the browser extension upgrades.

I'm asked for my secret key, but when I go to look for it in my Mac app (which is still logged in and displaying all my passwords, thankfully) and click Preferences > Accounts as instructed, it shows no accounts and says "Sign into your 1Password account". (Not sure why it is still showing all my passwords then!)

I don't have an Emergency Kit PDF anywhere. I don't remember setting up a secret key.

Any help is much appreciated! Thanks!

1Password Version: 6.8
Extension Version: 4.6.9.90
OS Version: 10.12.6
Sync Type: Dropbox

    Hi @ericah,

Do you have a 1Password subscription membership? If not then you would not have a Secret Key. For the iPhone you'd need to set up Dropbox syncing, instead of selecting the option to login to a 1Password account:

    https://support.1password.com/sync-options/

What happens when you try to use the Chrome extension?

    Please let us know.

Thanks @Ben — I don't have a subscription membership, just the Mac OS purchase. I see the Dropbox syncing on my phone, thanks! When I click the Chrome extension I see this menu https://cl.ly/2X2H433o302C and then when I click the first option I'm redirected to 1password.com to log in, which is where I'm asked for the Secret Key.

  • Thanks @ericah,

That explains the confusion. Sorry about that. It sounds like you're all set now though? If not let us know and we'll help you through this.

@rickfillion No, I still can't log into the Chrome Extension because it's redirecting me to the 1password website and asking me for a Secret Key. How do I get around that? Thanks!

  • @ericah: you shouldn't need to login to the chrome extension. You installed the one from https://agilebits.com/onepassword/extensions? That extension should find the Mac app running locally and connect to it. There shouldn't be any kind of sign in process.

Could you try quitting Chrome and relaunching it? If that doesn't work we might need to get a diagnostics report and have one of our Mac developers to take a look at it. We've recently changed how the chrome extension communicates with the Mac app.

@rickfillion omg that fixed it. Thank you!!

  • Woo! The old "turn it off and on again" trick.

You're very welcome. Let us know if you have any more questions.
