Thanks for reporting this.
Do not import the vault itself, instead open it directly by going to the 1Password Menu > Open vault on this PC. 1Password will convert it to OPVault for you.
It is intentional at the moment that you cannot import into standalone vaults, this is a Known Issue listed here. It'll be fixed in a future beta update but for now, you don't need to import any standalone vaults, just open them directly.

Cool, thanks! As a side question, is there a way to delete standalone values I've created? :)

Yes, it's also listed in the Known Issues, I would recommend reviewing it, so you'd get a better sense of what's missing, how you can work around it and so on.
To remove the vault, open the vault selector on top left, and right-click on the vault that you want to remove to select Remove Vault.
