Windows 7 app still needs old password

I've been using app only versions of 1password.

I've just changed to an account. This switchover process seems a bit cludgy, to be honest. It's just taken me ages to get rid of my 'old' vault in Mac OSX.

In Windows the application is still asking for my old password, not the new one. Despite me removing the application and reinstalling. Why hasn't this transferred across. The data are there.

@JohnnyLydon: Can you be more specific? Which part of the steps to setup your devices with your account and remove the old vault have you been struggling with? It sounds like you may have skipped some. Thanks in advance!

In addition to what Brenty asked, 1Password encrypts its local database with the first master password you give it. If you set up with the standalone vault first, it'll use the first vault password until you remove the standalone vault(s) later, it can then notify you that it has updated to match your 1Password account's password.

There are some limitations to this database password update, as in it won't update if you still have more standalone vaults left behind. Reinstalling 1Password has no impact on the local database, it will not remove it.

Thanks folks. I followed the steps more carefully and it seems to have worked. Although the local vault isn't appearing in the mac app or the windows app anymore, I'm a little nervous that it's still on the hard drive somewhere. Is there a way of checking it's really gone? And I used to sync via dropbox. The folder is still there, and I'd like to leave it there in case I decide to withdraw after the 30 day trial. Presumably that will just linger as dormant data?

@JohnnyLydon: I'm not sure I follow. Do you want to keep the original vault, or do you want to delete it? it isn't possible to do both.

    Hi @JohnnyLydon,

Once you migrate your data to your 1Password account, your standalone vault remains as is in case you want to go back. We do not delete anything. This is also why you have to make sure the rest of your 1Password apps are re-configured to use your 1Password account and not the standalone vaults to avoid confusion or sync issues.

You can leave the 1Password standalone vault in your Dropbox folder until you're 100% sure you want to use the 1Password.com membership instead. There is no need to delete anything, you can just archive the vault in Dropbox to your backup drive and keep it there. Your vaults will remain secure as well, there's no risk of leaving it alone.
