All passwords disappeared and not able to restore from backup

Have launched my 1password, just to see that all the passwords I had saved til now have disappeared. Tried to restore from backup. However 1password would not even recognize the file as the backup file and would not let me select it.

I'm on a Mac, OSX 10.9.4.
1Password is v4 and purchased directly from AgileBits, not the App store.

    Thanks for taking the time to contact us. I'm so sorry that you are having some trouble!

    Are backups listed if you choose File > Restore from the menu bar? Here is what mine looks like. From there, you should be able to choose the most recent backup and click the "Restore" button.

    If you're still having trouble, could you please email us a Diagnostics Report? Here are the complete steps for generating the report:
