This issue has bothered me for a while and isn't new to the specific versions mentioned above. In fact, I might have reported it before but couldn't find anything about it.

When I register on a site and use 1Password to fill the generated password, 1Password insists on using the signup URL instead of the login URL. Most recently this was for a throwaway Dropbox account I resurrected. In that case, the link is a "forget password link" but the process is identical to when I create a whole new account. I think you can reproduce this on most sites. Steps:

  1. Visit a signup/forgot URL. In Dropbox case, it's https://www.dropbox.com/forgot?forgot_key=aaaaa (with a unique key instead of "aaa").
  2. Use 1Password's password generator to fill a new password and press enter. Dropbox accepts the new password.
  3. Decline 1Password's offer to auto-save this new item. I don't want to use this forget URL.
  4. Visit the login URL, in Dropbox case https://www.dropbox.com/login. That's the login I want to use for the item.
  5. Fill the Password item from 1Password. The password gets filled. I type in the user name manually.
  6. Save the new login manually in mini's gear menu OR submit the login and accept 1Password's offer to save the login.

After completing the last step, 1Password INSISTS on using the URL https://www.dropbox.com/forgot?forgot_key=aaaaa instead https://www.dropbox.com/login, even though I was saving from the login URL. This happens not only for when accepting 1Password's auto-save offer, but also when I save it MANUALLY from mini's gear menu. It doesn't even save the login URL as a secondary URL!

The signup/forget URL is saved in the previous Password item, and I guess this gets converted to a login because it disappears, but surely 1Password should be smart about this and see I want another URL? AT LEAST if I'm using the manual method of saving? But even when using the auto-save method, it feels very counterintuitive to see 1Password override the login URL with the forget/signup URL.

I can live with this issue. It only happens with new items. I can work around it. But it's the kind of issue that prevents me from recommending 1Password to regular users.

  • Hi @Xe997‌,

It seems as if there is some stuck cache causing this. We'll have to look deeper into it. As a workaround for now, could you try simply editing the URL in the item to be https://www.dropbox.com/login? That should work. Please let me know.

    @chrisdj‌

Yes, there is no problem manually changing the URL to the desired one.

  • Glad to hear manually updating it works @Xe997‌. We have our developers looking into what was actually going on there. It's very odd, for sure.

    Hi @Xe997,

I wasn't able to reproduce this using https://www.dropbox.com/m/register in step 1 and https://www.dropbox.com/login in step 4.

It doesn't even save the login URL as a secondary URL!

My Login item does have the second URL saved as a second website field:

Did a similar test using https://www.facebook.com/r.php?key&invid&a=2 in step 1, and https://www.facebook.com/ or https://www.facebook.com/login.php?login_attempt=1 in step 4. The resulting items both have two website fields:

    1Password 4.4.2.BETA-4, Safari extension 4.2.4, OS X 10.9.4 (Safari 7.0.6) & 10.9.5 (Safari 7.1).

If you have a chance, could you run another test using those URLs and/or 1Password 4.4.2.BETA-4 and let us know the results? Your original report has been filed in our system.

    Thanks!

I updated to 4.4.2 (stable) and now at least a get the login URL saved as the second website. However I would prefer if 1Password not saved the register/forgot URL at all. I will never use that URL after I have created a login.

    Glad that's working with 4.4.2, @Xe997.

Thanks for your feedback on how you'd like URL saving to behave. I've included it with notes in our tracker.
