Generating a new password during sign up

Apologies if I've missed the information to my problem in the user guide to 1Password for iOS. I'm either missing functionality or not using the app correctly.

The scenario is as follows: I'm on a website using the iPhone where during a sign up process I need to select a password. There are two options here:

  1. I'm using Safari for iOS. When tap into the Password (or Create a Password) field I enter the Share button and then select the 1Password extension. 1Password doesn't appear to be integrated in the sense that it can generate a password for me at this stage. Reading the 1Password manual for iOS seems to confirm that 1Password isn't integrated to that degree into Safari ("iOS does not allow the level of integration required for extension of 1Password into Safari and other browsers on your iOS device, so the 1Password for iOS app includes 1Browser for your convenience"). I might be misinterpreting this statement though.

  2. Using the included 1Browser, I go the same sign up page and tap into the Password (or Create a Password) field. However there seems to be no way to generate a password at this stage.

I've tried that sign up process with the following sites: https://accounts.google.com/SignUp?continue=https://accounts.google.com/ManageAccount and https://discussions.agilebits.com/entry/register ;)

As a good password practice I want to use unique and long passwords, which is why I'm looking for an on-the-fly method to generate and store passwords. The only way I currently can use 1Password generated passwords seems to be to create a Login item, have a password generated there and then copy/paste it into either Safari or 1Browser. This seems clumsy particularly in 1Browser's case.

I was hoping that signing up for an account would create a Login item in 1Password automatically. Likewise, signing in with existing credentials that are not yet stored in 1Password should offer to include these credentials into the app.

I'm using version 5.1.1 of the iOS app.

    Hi @invenio‌

unfortunately you are right: the process to sign up for a site and generate a password for it is currently far from optimal. Creating a login inside 1Password and copy & pasting the password is the only option.

I will let our developers know this needs to be improved.

    Thanks @Winnie‌
1Password is a fantastic suite of products. I've no doubt this enhancement will be added at some stage. Looking forward to it.
