How does this work and integrate with an existing 1Password user?

OK, I admit it, I trusted Agilebits to provide documentation and integration with my existing 1Password--my stupid.

How about a document? Just leading me through setting up accounts is insufficient.

When I click on setup a device I am taken to a page with options such as: "Get 1Password for Mac" but I already have 1Password for Mac installed and setup with my data.

I see team references but it is unclear if 1Password for Families is the same as 1Password for Teams. It is unclear if the 1Password app is different than my current app.

Here is the golden rule for UI: Never put the user in a place where he is wondering. I'm wondering!

I have the same issue! It tells me to download apps that I already have and the terms Family and Teams seem to be used the same, but I don't really know. Also, how do I find out where to import Vaults from my current account into this one? I would have expected an export and import function, but it isn't obvious if there is an option. And I have too many to manually enter again. Hopefully someone with the "Team" comments soon.

  • Hi, @zaph and @powermac, and welcome to our forum!

I'm really sorry for the confusion. We have a lot of ironing to do it seems.

1Password for Families is a slightly simplified version of 1Password for Teams, but it is the same service. We haven't gotten the wording changed over for family accounts. Here's how to add your new family account to an existing 1Password setup: https://support.1password.com/teams-families-setup-existing-user/mac.html

Once you've added your account, here's how to move your current data into your new account: https://support.1password.com/move-data-teams-families/mac.html

    I hope that helps!

I backed up and then exported my entire vault onto my desktop. I went into Preferences and added my "team" or Family account. Then I imported the data into my "Personal" account within the family. I hope I didn't add confusion or something I will regret. I couldn't figure out a different way.

  • Hi, @powermac.

What you described sounds like it should have worked, although you didn't have to do it that way. Once you've added your account, you can simply move items between vaults as described here: https://support.1password.com/move-data-teams-families/mac.html

But it sounds like you're good to go, so thanks for the update! :)
