Windows Client 6.2.333 Features Needed

Thanks for writing in with your suggestions.

1. Preserved Sort State on the windows client - when you change from categories as an example you lose sort type.

This is a coming in a future update, we have a lot of work to do to preserve the state for a lot of the UI; sorting, last vault opened, search between vaults and many more.

2. Being able to remove/delete tags. You should not have to use the MAC client to do this.

Agreed, this is on our list to implement along with the ability to do bulk editing such as renaming tags on the sidebar and dragging items onto the tags to tag them all.

3. Rich icons.

4. Consistent look and feel with the Mac Client. Features as well.

This is the goal for 1Password 6 for Windows, to match the 1Password consistency/experience on all platforms, with macOS version being the flagship.

5. Un-authorizing windows clients from the web.

On the list.

6. Pop-up extension for the browser like the MAC client or older windows client.

That already exists as 1Password mini, the extensions itself has no UI or data, it works with the 1Password mini in the background like the macOS version of 1Password. However, the UI isn't yet fully optimized. We will add category groupings, tags, in-line password generators, and so much more in the near future.

7. The ability to duplicate (not copy to another vault) a password.

That's coming in a future update.

8. Master Length - the website (first time creation) is the only place where you note the size of the master password. "That’s too short. Your password needs at least 10 characters to keep your secrets safe.". This should be done all places...consistency.

Do you mean add this suggestion to the Change Master Password page in 1Password's Security settings? That's a good idea, we don't do this in other places because the web site is the exception, it is the only place where you can set up a new 1Password.com account and thus you must create a strong password. We do use your account key to further strengthen your master password since you need both pieces to authenticate yourself.

Correct, in fact, if you change the password now for your 1Password.com account using Chrome or Firefox, it will not say anything about the suggestion for 10 characters either:

I've filed a request for our team to review this and see if we can do a standard for all apps to be consistent with the suggestions.

Change the master password on the Windows Client (it does not show the min 10 chars....does it??). The master password change is not reflected on the website.

That is correct for the moment. There's a note in the Windows app right above the button to change the master password that says it does not change the master password for any remote accounts or local vaults, you're only changing the master password of the local 1Password database. There are currently two separate passwords in the Windows app, the local database password and the master password you've created for your 1Password.com account. As the 1Password apps can use any local vaults and multiple 1Password accounts, the database must have a master password to encrypt them all and decrypt them as well. Right now, the young 1Password 6 for Windows does not support changing remote passwords nor linking accounts/vaults for the master password.

In the next update, 1Password 6 for Windows will support updating its local database password once you sign in again with the new password. It'd work like this:

1. Change the master password on the website
2. Unlock 1Password 6 with the master password assigned to 1Password on that device, you'll get the authentication prompt saying your account credentials are wrong, you must sign in again.
3. After you sign in with the new password, it will then update the app's local database password if it is the same password as the account, so the next time you unlock, it will only allow the new password.

Future updates will simplify this further to automatically pick up the changes, so that you wouldn't get an authentication error unless you enter the wrong password. In addition, 1Password 6 will gain support for account settings, where you can change the password of each account you have as well as changing the password of the local vaults once we add full support for them. There will be a note that changing the master account will change the local database's password as well.
