Another Reason to Avoid Windows and Biometrics

If you've skipped recent Windows 10 Creators Updates, here's a reason to change your mind: its facial recognition security feature, Hello, can be spoofed with a photograph.

The vulnerability was announced by German pentest outfit Syss at Full Disclosure ( http://seclists.org/fulldisclosure/2017/Dec/77 )

I used to do this with FaceIT PC in the mid-90s. Really? Are things still no better? (back then all you had to do was bend the pic a little to mimic motion, it was measuring the distance between eyes, tip of your nose and mouth).

  • That's unfortunate. I like the direction that Apple has taken their Face ID technology. It's got its own set of limitations, but they feel like a step in the right direction at least.
