1Password informed me that my Safari extension needed to be updated. I downloaded the update but the update won't install. Here's a screen shot...

1Password Version: 6.8.8
Extension Version: your newest one
OS Version: 10.13.3
Sync Type: Not Provided

@srohde - Sorry for the trouble! Have you already gone through the steps in our guide for this problem?

No, I have not. I think I’m done with 1Password. It’s just too unreliable.

@srohde: That's not 1Password; that's Safari. I'm sorry you feel that way, and that you've encountered this issue, but it isn't something we have any control over; Safari handles installation of extensions. Usually it's smart enough to remove the old one before trying to copy over the new one with the same name to avoid this collision, but for some reason it happens from time to time. Happy to try to help you sort that out, but ultimately you may need to contact Apple if Safari is just messed up beyond my experience.

That said, it isn't the first time I've seen this, so it may be a fairly easy thing for you to sort out on your own. If Safari is only somewhat messed up, you may simply be able to go into Preferences > Extensions and remove it there, , restart your Mac, and then install a fresh copy of the current version:

    https://agilebits.com/onepassword/extensions

Note: If you install the "gallery" version instead when Safari prompts you, Safari can (try to) automatically update it for you in the future.

If that doesn't help, it may be necessary to reset Safari's extensions database:

    1. Open a Finder window and use the keyboard shortcut ⇧⌘G (Shift Command G) to open a Go to folder window.
    2. Use the following location: ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Safari.Extensions.plist and click the Go button.
    3. Drag the highlighted file to the Trash.
    4. Launch Keychain Access which you can find in /Applications/Utilities/ or using a Spotlight search.
    5. Search for safari and right-click on Safari Extensions List and select the Delete "Safari Extensions List" option.
    6. In Finder go to the following folder (using the same method as detailed in step 1) to go to ~/Library/Safari/
    7. Drag the entire Extensions folder to the Trash
    8. Then restart you Mac and Safari, which will recreate the folder and hopefully sort out any permissions issues as well

If you're still having trouble, this discussion in Apple's forums might help, or you may need to contact Apple directly for assistance.
