Icons HD

Hi !
I have the same issue on many websites...

@aordep I think this is more related to the favicon assigned to the website, but it’s responsabilty of the company in charge of the website, not 1Password.

@maan thanks for letting us know. Do you think you can let us know what icons are pixelated for you? We will work to get them fixed !
@luisalejandro_cc thanks for chiming in. We actually fetch and design our rich icons manually and host them on our end as any other method would be a security hazard. Please let us know if you have any issues with particular icons :).

Hi @jadchaar here are only two URLs for example, but there are so many others that need updating. I ask you this because I used to use Dashlane and all the icons were up to date. https://www.abaenglish.com/fr/ - https://www.distrelec.ch/

@jadchaar I have loads of missing or out of date Rich Icons in my logins. If I post the links here will you definitely update them in a timely fashion (I’m thinking three months or so)? If not then I don’t want to delete my carefully curated icons that I have sourced myself.

Thanks @Sheza, I have passed your website requests onto our designers.
@steve23094 our designers are quire timely with updating the logos, so please fire away

@Sheza @steve23094 @aordep Our designer has fixed all the icons for the sites you mention. Please let us know if you have anymore requests :).

https://panel.preyproject.comAdmittedly a few are a little obscure, but a lot are major players. As you can see your Rich Icon database leaves quite a lot to be desired, but hopefully you can rectify that.
If you need any clarifications please do ask. I’m hoping you won’t disappoint me because I have now deleted my own personal icons that took considerable time to collect.

Hi @steve23094 I have passed on your request to our designer. We hope our changes will satisfy you when they are applied .

Hi @Sheza, we are aware of the rich icon issues with 1Password for Mac, and hopefully a fix will make it to a later release. If you have a 1Password account, the icons should have updated properly on 1Password.com. Please let me know if they do not, and I will alert our designer.

I guess I will add some, too, since that seems to be a thing. It strikes me as a bit odd that this is the way icons get done (i.e., manually) given there are millions of sites on the Internet but, anyway...

@Sheza the reason we do this manually is because any automated approach could be a security risk as malware can be transmitted through images. I understand this is a painstaking approach, but we take security seriously and do not want to compromise it any way .
I will pass your suggestions onto our designer.

@jadchaar I see some of the changes I requested coming through. There is still some more work to be done but in the meantime please pass on my personal thanks to the designer.

Hi @steve23094, slowly but surely we are making progress through your requests . Thanks for bearing with us.

Hi @JadC
Thanks for all you and your teams efforts so far.
- WALTR and WALTR 2 Rich Icons are missing from your database.
- iStat Menus is an old icon.
- Path Finder is a very odd icon (not sure if it's just an old one or not).
- Movie Collector (which is from collectorz.com) is missing from your database.
- NTFS for Mac (from Paragon) is an old icon, using a very old style.
- Smarky is missing from your database.
- iTrash is missing from your database.
- Hard Disk Manager (from Paragon) is missing from your database.
- DriveDX is missing from your database.
- Downie is missing from your database.
- DVD Profiler is missing from your database.
- Elite: Dangerous is missing from your database.
All are software apps,
I'm guessing you don't have the commercial rights to use the original icons?
Thanks.

@steve23094 - correct. Those are things you can add manually if you like. 1Password will also check the /Applications folder for installed apps and grab what it can find. If the app's icons are in an unusual place or potentially you add the 1Password item before you add the app itself (like, right after you purchase it, before you install it), you may run into this issue. Usually, that's (relatively) easily solvable by either searching on the web yourself for the icon of the app in question, or opening the Package Contents and searching for the .icns file in the Resources folder.

@Lars Is this your way of saying you're not going to do anything about it?
Reasons why your comments are not helpful:
1) 1P will typically pick up apps that are installed, but they don't propagate anywhere else (unless I force edit them myself). Frankly this is a foolish design choice, that means they are blank on iOS and other Macs which might not have the software installed.
2) I might not have have the software installed anywhere. I also own Windows software licenses and 1P is obviously not going to pick up those.
3) Most of the time dragging and dropping or copying and pasting icons into 1P is broken, they typically leave an ugly white background instead of being transparent. This is despite having a transparent background in Finder, Preview or GIMP. This has been broken for four years!!! and I have posted about it before. It's about time you pulled your finger out and fixed it, don't you think? See here https://discussions.agilebits.com/discussion/comment/156217#Comment_1562170 -
The main point being that we have limited resources and have to prioritize them to provide the most benefit to the most customers. As resources become available to work further on icons we will certainly consider these specific requests.
We do sometimes have resources we can devote to updating icons, but that isn’t always the case. We were fortunate to have some interns join us over the summer which enabled us to able to accomplish much of what you’ve requested. Rich icons certainly serve a purpose, or we wouldn’t include that function in 1Password, but having the latest and greatest icons can be quite time consuming. There is an inquantifiable amount of websites and software applications. Maintaining a database of the latest versions of high quality images for all of them could be a full time job for a huge number of people, which isn’t practical, and even if we could do that it would still never be 100% complete. Case in point: I have exposure to a lot of different software and have never heard of 10 of the 13 apps you mentioned.

With due respect if that is the attitude you’re going to bring to this forum I’m going to have a difficult time advocating for your position.
For what it’s worth that particular issue was resolved back in October of 2015, though it was noted that going forward the Mac App Store version of the app may have more difficulty than the version downloaded from our website. That isn’t to say we may not have a new issue regarding transparencies in icons, which I believe is the case:
