1.7.1 not working right with chase.com

If I use 1Password to login to chase.com, it logs in but immediately logs out again. If I copy & paste the creds out of 1Password and manually login, everything works fine. Seems to be the automation & not the creds.

@spoco92: Thanks for getting in touch! Can you tell me the browser version and URL involved? I'll be happy to test this thoroughly to see if there's something we can do to improve 1Password X there.

    URL is https://secure07c.chase.com/web/auth/dashboard#/dashboard/index/index
straight up chase.com works correctly, but this one doesn't.
Browser is Version 66.0.3359.139 (Official Build) (64-bit)

    @spoco92, @iamecho: Thank you both!

@spoco92: Interestingly, when I go to chase.com directly and click on the Sign In button in the upper right, I am taken to a similar page to the one you linked:

    https://secure01b.chase.com/web/auth/dashboard#/dashboard/index/index

And I'm not having any trouble filling there with 1Password X.

I also have a few different URLs I've saved over time:

    https://chaseonline.chase.com

    https://chaseonline.chase.com/Logon.aspx

I'm not having trouble there either, but do you have a different result on those?

I'm using 1Password X 1.8.1 and Chrome 66.0.3359.139 here. Can you both tell me the exact steps you're taking? I wonder if there's something I'm doing differently. I'm also interested in exactly what you mean by "logs in but immediately logs out again", as I'm not seeing anything like that here. One way or another, we'll track it down! :)

@brenty @spoco92 Good morning! The logging in / out is a little bizarre, and IMHO may be on Chase.com's end? But to answer your question Brenty, I launch Chrome (Version 66.0.3359.139 (Official Build) (64-bit)) and log into 1Password using the menu icon. I select Chase from my favorites and hit go. When https://www.chase.com/ loads I select the 1Password icon in the username field and once the u/n and p/w fill in, I hit sign in. Out of my five tests this morning, 3 successfully took me to my accounts, and 2 logged me in and immediately logged me out again without me doing anything. Clear as mud?

Thank you for the extra details, @iamecho, that helps a lot.

I don't have a Chase account to test this theory completely but I was able to test using a fake account and I believe the issue is related to Go and Fill. When loading the https://www.chase.com/ homepage you will notice that it takes some time until the login form appears. On my machine it takes about 4 seconds before it's done animating in. Our Go and Fill approach will notice there's no form to fill and will try again when one is available. My guess is once you log in manually the second time, we accidentally fill the next page that loads, thereby tickling something on the Chase page to log you out.

Can you try editing your login to have the https://chaseonline.chase.com/ URL that Brenty mentioned as the item's first website? When I tested using that landing page Go and Fill worked much better as the page doesn't gave that 4 second delay before the form renders.

Please give that a go (pun intended! 😂) and let us know how it goes (😉). 🙂

@dteare Hi Dave, thanks, that worked just fine for me. 3 for 3 success rate. Pleasure doing business with you ;)

P.S. There was no issue on safari using https://www.chase.com/, just FYI

  • Sweet! Thank you for the update, @iamecho.

We do have a bug here with Go and Fill that we'll look into. As for Safari, I think I know why it works there and not in 1Password X. I was trying something new and may have been too cute with the implementation. We'll fix that. 🙂

@dteare Hi Dave. If I hit https://chaseonline.chase.com/, it auto-resolves me over to https://secure07c.chase.com/web/auth/dashboard#/dashboard/index/index which then still doesn't work. This form looks like this:

I use the popup to fill in my creds, then hit "Sign in". It appears to sign me in, I very briefly see my account page, then it immediately logs me out and I land here:

So I don't see a delay in rendering the page. But it does jive that you are filling something in post-the-initial-login that is causing a logout.

https://chaseonline.chase.com/Logon.aspx also redirects me to the secure etc. URL that doesn't work for me.

@spoco92: This is confusing me because, in spite of all the problems I've had with Chase over the years, I'm not having any in this case. I have an account here so I'll discuss it with Dave more, but just to make sure I'm on the same page with you here, can you give me the exact steps you're taking? I'm cautiously optimistic that I'll be able to help track this down. :)

Tried already but I will try again. If I go to any of the suggested links, or the one I started with, I get redirected to: https://secure07c.chase.com/web/auth/dashboard#/dashboard/index/index
    I am running 1Password X 1.7.1
I use cmd-shift-X to log in to 1Password.
I click on the 1Password popup in the Username text box.
I have 2 chase accounts. I pick the 2nd one.
I push the sign in button.
I briefly see my account page, then a header that says "you're being signed out" then the page I showed above with a header that says "You've successfully signed out."
I try the other account (#1 in the list), same thing happens.
This used to work fine, it stopped working sometime in the last few weeks.

  • Thanks for taking the time to share those steps, @spoco92. I'm desperately trying to get Chase to redirect me to https://secure07c.chase.com/web/auth/dashboard#/dashboard/index/index but it's just not happening on my end. When I navigate to https://chaseonline.chase.com/ or https://chaseonline.chase.com/Logon.aspx, the page is loaded immediately and I'm not redirected anywhere. This is with Chrome on macOS. Are you still using the same setup? I know that Chase likes to redirect on mobile fairly often but I have yet to see this behavior on a non-mobile device.

With that being said, even if I manually navigate to https://secure07c.chase.com/web/auth/dashboard#/dashboard/index/index, 1Password X fills correctly. Unfortunately, I'm not able to fully test the behavior you're seeing since I don't have a Chase account, so I'll have to leave that for @brenty who will hopefully be able to reproduce this behavior using your steps.

@spoco92: Thanks for the details! I am able to reproduce the issue here using my account. It may be difficult to come up with a fix since the problem isn't that 1Password X fills incorrectly, but that the website is logging us out.

I believe there is a workaround that can help you while we look into this further though: make the window bigger. I don't know why, I guess something to do with the fact that their website changes with different window sizes, but I am only getting logged out again when the window is small enough not to show a login form on the page, like this:

    https://www.chase.com

That's where clicking the "Sign In" button redirects me to a URL like the one you gave. Making the window bigger results in the website showing the login form right there though:

    https://secure07c.chase.com/web/auth/dashboard#/dashboard/index/index

And then some of the time, the website does not log me back out after signing in there. It seems like if the sign in happens quickly, it signs back out again; whereas if it takes a second or two more, the page loads fully and keeps me logged in. I'm not sure that's helpful, but it may point to the cause.

The other URL definitely works better for me:

    https://chaseonline.chase.com/Logon.aspx

However, I noticed that if I have signed in using my personal account last, that URL redirects me to the other you linked above. Not useful. This URL is apparently only used for business accounts now.

Anyway, I'm sorry this isn't the news you were hoping for, but we'll continue to investigate and see if there's something more we can do to help. Thank you for bringing this to our attention!

Also, notably, if I login and logout of my personal account first, https://chaseonline.chase.com/Logon.aspx redirects me to me the new, awful login page that is causing us all so many problems here:

    https://secure07c.chase.com/web/auth/dashboard#/dashboard/index/index

If I login and logout of my business account first, I get the older login page there which is less of a pain:

So that explains some of the confusion in this discussion.

@brenty thanks for the breakdown. I'll try rearranging the window to see if Chase will follow a different path. It definitely has something to do with 1Password. If I type my credentials manually, or even copy & paste them from 1Password, everything works. It only goes bananas if I use 1Password to fill the form.

@spoco92: Yeah, it's very strange. I'm not sure why the account page takes longer to load sometimes, or why that would prevent me getting logged back out. We'll see what we can discover. I'm glad that will work for you in the mean time though.

@brenty. Hi All. Thanks for looking into this as I am having a similar issue. With some testing, this is what I have experienced:
Browser: Google Chrome Version 66.0.3359.139 (Official Build) (64-bit) on Windows OS
    1Password: version 1.7.2
Both https://chaseonline.chase.com/ and https://chaseonline.chase.com/Logon.aspx redirect me to https://secure07b.chase.com/web/auth/dashboard#/dashboard/index/index (Note address “secure07b…”)
At this login page, if I use the 1Password dropdown choices (i.e. one of my three accounts) within the login box, I experience the “log in/log out” phenomenon. If I use the FILL option from the 1Password menu dropdown (in Chrome’s add-in menu bar) it works and stays logged in.
For https://www.chase.com/ or https://secure07c.chase.com/web/auth/dashboard#/dashboard/index/index (Note address “secure07c...”), either dropdown option seems to work and keeps me logged in.
So, for me, the “log in/log out” issue arises only with the combination of that login page that starts with “secure07b..” and using the dropdown of account choices within the login box. Hope that helps focus the issue a little more.

@mistermar: Fascinating. Thanks so much for sharing that! I've passed this along to the team and volunteered to be a guinea pig since I have an account and can reproduce this in case we need any diagnostic info. Very helpful! :chuffed:

Problem with chase.com as well. I have the newest Chrome extension and 1password download (downloaded both yesterday). Here is what I get on chase.com:

It just makes the boxes red but does not fill them in.

  • Thanks for chiming in, @ishootfriendlies.

I'm still unable to recreate this myself but thankfully @brenty can. We've been rather busy since the 1Password 7 launches and I haven't been able to sync up with him yet. Hopefully soon as I'd love to get this working sooner than later.

@dteare: This is definitely working for me now with the new beta. Thank you! <3

@ishootfriendlies: While you'll get these same improvements once the new stuff hits the stable channel, if you're using Chrome I'd love it if you'd give the beta a try to confirm it's working for you as well. Chase has long been a struggle off and on, so I'd welcome any additional data points. And if you're like me and have some bills to pay this weekend anyway, it might not even be out of your way.

I was having this same issue (didn't think it was a 1Password problem) but can confirm it's stopped within the last week or so.

@hansenc: Ah, great! Then that makes perfect sense, as we released a beta that helped me with this too. Hopefully it will be able to everyone on the stable channel soon as well. Cheers! :)
