Do guests to family vaults have their own unique secret keys?

If you invite a guest to a family vault and they are being prompted to login with a secret key, is it the same key as my master account or do they have their own unique secret key - if it is their own unique secret key, how do they retrieve it if they've lost it? Thank you.

  • Hi @namastelotus,

Each account has its own Secret Key — whether it is a guest or a family member. No one should ever share a Secret Key unless the intention is for those two people to be the same person as far as 1Password is concerned.

Each person’s Secret Key is available on their Emergency Kit that they should’ve printed or saved as part of the account creation process. If they did not save the Emergency Kit their only recourse is going to be to have a Family Organizer initiate the recovery process for them:

Recover accounts for family or team members | 1Password

    I hope that helps!

Excellent! Thanks for the update. On behalf of **Ben, you are most welcome! It sounds like you should be all set, but don't hesitate to reach out if we can be of further assistance. Cheers! :)
